Hello, here is BW conversion i did from D200 raw in BibblePro with Andy BW plugin, save as tif then edited in Gimp to brighten eyes and final smart sharpen.

Hello, going to critique my own work, sorry if this not correct.

After looking at this conversion i decided i did not like the big grey band at top, and thought more contrast between light and dark side of face would be good.

So here is new version of critiquing myself :)

I was looking for soft look, but have sharpened eyes and lower lip.

Here is version with dark noise removal layer off, it is little sharper but not much.

It was taken with 85mm 1.8 at f/2 and was trying to get eyes sharp with rest in shallow DOF.

Can you post the original and tell us what conversion method you used?

Hello, ok here is original plus new version where have increased sharpness and brought the eyes up a bit more.

The main processing and BW conversion was done in BibblePro (raw converter) with BW conversion plugin 'Andy', final retouch and smart sharpening was done in gimp.

The plugin 'Andy' allows you to replicate BW from film processing in that you can choose film type, chemical processing and paper. The settings i used for latest version are:

film type - AgfaPan APX 400
processing - Refinal 5min 68F
paper - Kodak AZO grade 2

Very nice conversion. I used Photoshop and got about the same results except a little sharper and more lighting on the left side of the baby's face.

Thanks for feedback, nice job with your conversion, it is little sharper in places but for me making right side of face brighter also blows highlights on left side, bridge of nose and little area of forehead!

If you look at my first version you can see it is lighter, i prefer the darker version and the difference in sharpness is not that much that i am going to worry.

I must stop playing with this image :)

Here is the final version but with a filter that replicates the 'orton effect' it is different and can't make up my mind if i like it, but keep finding myself drawn it!

It sort of grows on you.
