I was going through some old family photos and I found this pic of my mom that my dad carried around with him in WWII in Europe.
It was really cracked from being in his pocket for all those war years, so I took out the big scratches.
I just thought it was nicely posed. This would have been about 1944, and she would have been 24. It was taken two years before I was born, nine months to the day that Dad came home.
Mom had beautiful auburn hair, reddish. She died in 1981.

She was certainly a 'stunner' in her time, I'm hoping the photo wasn't posted for retouching or only for members to appreciate ( the lack of response makes me wonder) anyway I've attempted a cropped painting of her, hope you like it.........

I love it, Gilbert. No I posted the pic for portrait painting. Yes, it has a lot of retouching that needs to be done, but that wasn't my purpose. Sometimes you can paint over a photo easier than retouching it. :)

I have been a bit preoccupied of late so have only just finished this, It was done more of a experiment to see if it was feasible to smudge a "old " photo ! !

I don't know if this was done in a studio or at home. My dad was an amateur photographer, complete with darkroom and many different cameras. he sent home lots of pix of the Alps, France, Germany and England and Scotland.
He never talked about the war after he got back. Didn't want to revisit what he'd seen.
He might have taken this one before he left. I don't know. But you can bet that during the WWII years there were lots of photographers who made a lot of money taking sexy portraits of "the girl back home."

Amy, she was a very beautiful lady. I can see why your dad kept her photo safe with him through his combat in the war. Can't you imagine him being lonely and worried, then taking out her photo to look at and feeling some connection to back home and his loved one...

Another thing has struck me, The angle that the photo was taken at is now very much the fashion i am seeing it everywhere, funny how things roll round, now to try it out !
