I'm experimenting with some of the brushes in Photoshop. In particular I'd like to paint on a new layer with an image on the layer beneath it.

Is there any way of telling Photoshop to pick up the underlying colours from the layer below it? (Similar to how Corel Painter allows it?)

If I got Ur problem U just have to set the brush to luminosity mode to avoid colors or duplicate the main image 2x fill the upper one to 50%black and set it luminosity blended mode merge it down and set that strange new layer to color blended mode and move it over that layer what U're painting on

Don't know if this is what you meant. With the brush tool active, option/click (while on the new layer), the color you want. These are mac keys.
