I did some strange and unusual things to get this hand painted look.

1. Converted to B/W and boosted contrast saved as a JPEG
2. Color tweaked and saved the original as a Pattern as well as a PSD for future texture map
3. Traced the JPEG in Illustrator and brought back to Photoshop as a smart object. This was just a black and white tracing.
4. I used the magic wand to select all the black in the tracing then on a layer above the tracing I painted with a watercolor brush picking colors from the swatches palette. The marching ants were dancing the whole time I was painting. This way I could use large strokes and not "paint outside the lines". I painted the jugs, frame, fern and shelf and ladle this way "freehand"
5. Turned the tracing layer's blend mode to color burn and put it at the top of the layer stack at about 25% opacity. This brought back some of the "rick rack" pattern in the jugs.
6. Used the Pattern Stamp Tool to paint in the wall. The first layer was with the impressionist feature turned ON. Then on a new layer above that at about 10% opacity painted in more detail with the impressionist feature turned OFF.
7. Merged the two PST layers and added Stucco texture.
8. Used a 50% gray layer to dodge and burn some more shadows and highlights.
9. Stamp merged all, and did a low relief texture map of the previously saved PSD map file.

I probably forgot a step or two, but I was really shooting for a very hand painted look for the jugs.

Wow! What a terrific result. I don't have Illustrator but do have Corel Draw (which I've never used) Think that will work?

If Corel Draw has the ability to auto trace or create vector drawings from a JPEG or TIFF file, you should be able to do pretty much the same thing. Would love to see your version if you can do it in CD.

A loaf of bread a jug of wine and thou....etc...etc.

Hey Swampy that's quite good! Real hand painted look.

I would however, have quit about a third of the way through this quite lengthy process.........lazy you know.

Started out with the ASCII-Gen thingy again, but I did so many filters and things that I have to give this one a down ask. :)

LK... that really does have a primitive look and I like it! Simplicity!

Swampy you got the effect you were after Okay, that's very good.
You said you like simple, so I tried it, trouble is it got really complicated.
I think it was easier to do complicated.

lkroll love the primitive look, any idea what it would look like with a sketch type layer overlayed ? not black though some earthy brown colour !

Just a a new twist on an old one.

How fun! Sweetlight! Very good manipulation.

Just mess'in around in Photoshop with filters and freehand brush work.
