This voting thread will close Friday November 30th at midnight (EDT).

You may view the entries in the Competition thread or all together here: --
http://www.pbase.com/shadepuppy/nov_competition__retouchprocom

Voting is open to all RetouchPro members.

Post your choices (in this thread) for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd by listing the member's name. If you want to explain your reasons, please do.

Vote for the 3 entries you like the best - you might consider how well a photo captures your attention, how well it deals with the subject, how well it fits with the chosen theme, how well the technical details are handled -- lighting, composition, sharpness, etc., -- you are the judge of what appeals to you and what is important to you in an image and the subject category.

Votes will be weighted to give greater weight to First Place votes than to Second and greater weight to Second than to Third place votes. When you place a vote for First Place, that entry will receive four (4) points; when you place a vote for Second, that entry will receive two (2) points, and a vote for Third Place will receive one (1) point.

1. Entry X (their name) - First Place
2. Entry A (their name) - Second Place
3. Entry C (their name) - Third Place

This voting thread is now open and will close close Friday November 30th at midnight (EDT). The winner will be notified and will choose a subject for the December (or January if we decide to take a month off) competition.

The whole gallery of b/w images look good together as a whole on the PBase gallery page.

My votes:

1. Mystical One (love the range of tones)

2. Janet Petty (love the dramatic composition of the tree against the sky)

3. ejk (different feel - a peaceful feeling with lovely range of tones)

Really enjoy looking at this month's entries, and voting was difficult.

Difficult to decide this month.

I've no real expertise with B&W, so I just picked what appealed to me.

1st Danny Raphael This one made me think (which is always a dangerous thing) about framing and perspective. I loved the geometry and the implied hidden promise off screen as the tracks drew you off to who knows where. Reminded me of some old B&W movie, you can almost hear the whistle in the distance.

2nd Janet Petty This just leaped off the screen at me, I loved it. Great lighting and framing, all it needed was Kirk Douglas or James Stewart to make me think I was looking at a desert shot on some early Western.

3rd Scuba Margie & Mystical One Couldn't decide which of these two appealed to me more, so in the end I stopped trying and gave a joint 3rd place. Both had a somewhat skewed view of their subject which I liked a lot.

That was very fun, and a learning experience to take black and white photos, I looked at things differently.
1st - Janet - Nice composition and good tonal range, all though rocks are a little washed out. I love the sky and tree.
2nd - MysticalOne - I really like this it is a neat pattern that wouldn't show up as easily with color. It could use a little curves adjustment for contrast.
3rd - Gary - Nice scene, could use a little more tone.
Great job everyone.

The November voting is complete.

The winner of the November 2007 Photography competition is Janet Petty for her black/white image of Utah scenery.

Second place went to Mystical One with a smidge of a vote over ejk for third place.

I think everyone agrees that we had some lovely entries this month, and many of us will do more black and white images.

Due to the holiday season, Janet will have a while to decide on the theme for the next competition, which will begin January 1, 2008. I'll post in this thread announcing the theme when Janet makes her decision (after her return from her trip).
