I just finished Portal, one of my favorite FPS games, probably my absolute favorite except it's not precisely an FPS. There's no aliens, no killing of anyone (except you, and that's only if you get a puzzle wrong). And it's funny, in a dry, dark way that we don't see nearly enough of anywhere, let alone in games.

no demo version?

It's not really long enough for a demo. You can see plenty of movies about it on youtube, but they also give away the solutions (it's all about puzzles). You can download and play it for $20 at steampowered.com
