Thought I'd pass on this site:

Just wondering if anyone has done this?

I modified a Vivatar digital camera for IR. Most any camera with a separate IR filter over the sensor can be modified. You just remove the filter and add a section of blank developed film in it's place. It worked pretty good.

If you haven't seen the websites below, they're worth a look.

Some of the older non-SLR cameras were considered best for IR at one time. I hang on to my Olympus C2100-UZ because it has better sensitivity than many for IR using a IR filter. The Olympus C5050Z was supposed to be better, as was the Nikon 950 - might be hard to find as I didn't find any listed on Ebay or at KEH Used cameras. Amazon has a couple of Nikons, but they're not cheap.
