hi,
don't know if I understand correctly what you want to do.... however... if it just to split a clip and discard or save or whatever, real easy....

1. after you imported your clip into wmm
2. then move your play cursor to where you want to split....
3. then either do a ctrl+L or go to the edit menu and click split
4. now you'll have 2 clips to do with what you want either to move around or delete , etc.....
you might be interested in the link.....
http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/Default.aspx there forums and how to's, tutorials etc... a good site for wmm
