Hey guys! This year i was studying photography at college at was approached by one of the film students. He asked me if i woudl like to design some movie posters for a Short Movie they were making. So i said yes and was handed the images, and of course they needed some editing lol. So i got to work, here is one image...

Nice work, although it seems a little dark overall. Also, you had mentioned that it was a poster for a short film that's being made at your school. My only concern is that this, as a poster, would not be an effective advertising tool because it doesn't tell us enough of the story. When we look at movie posters, there has to be an element that draws us in, and would make us pay the outrageous sum of money to go to the theatre and watch the movie. For example, the movie title is "The Music Box", yet we don't ever see a music box. Is this what the movie was about?

I took a look at your website, and the final poster design is much better.

I like the overall look of it. Her skin seems rather blotchy in the after though, you can even see the remnants of that one hair that you retouched out. I think you are going in the right direction with her shoulder, but need a few more dodged layers in incrementing brush sizes to add a little contrast to it, and make it look a bit more 3d. Attached a quick throw of what I was saying because it's hard explaining things.

I agree with most of the comments so far. I would also say that you could try lowering the opacity of the "noise" layer that you seem to be using to give the skin some texture after the smooth.

That girl is beautiful, but I'm not sure this would be very effective as a movie poster as someone else said. The picture is also a little dark.

I agree, it's a touch dark, unless that is what you are looking for, you might want to lighten it some. You also might want to soften the shiny skin a little. But more than that, it doesn't draw me in. You need to catch interest. It doesn't have to be a high end glamor look, but it should have something to let me know a little something about what I might see.

Overall though, as far as your retouching goes, you have done a good job. I know that these seem like just little things, and they are pretty minor. Just remember, in this kind of work, it is the little details that make all of the difference.
