I don't know if this photo can be recovered. It's not a very good picture. I use both a eMac and a PC (details below).
I have three main problems:
1. Image almost too dark to see on my eMac but much lighter on PC. How can I adjust eMac to match the PC? Photoshop is on the eMac.
2. Can the "white eyes" be fixed? It appears to be no color there at all.
3. Faces are "splotchy".

Things I have tried:
1. Used Screen Blending Mode via Curves Adjustment Layer with Color Samplers.
2. Image > Adjustments >
levels
curves
Shadow/Highlight
Variations

For the "white eyes" I tried:
1. Tried Healing Brush, Clone Stamp, etc.
2. I tried borrowing images from other pictures.
3. Tried to "hack it". Manually adjust pixel by pixel. Of course, this failed.

The bottom line is that once I get the photos looking good on the eMac they are totally washed out on the PC. The PC is the true representation of the photo.

PC specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo with NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
Resolution - 1280x 960 at 32bit
Monitor - Acer AL1717 (700:1)

eMac (Mirror door) 700MHz
Resolution - 1280x960 at "millions" of color
Monitor dpi unknown, probably 500:1

I hope this all makes sense. I don't know what specs are relevant, if any.

Took your image into Photoshop CS3 and saved it as a JPEG. From there it was opened in Camera Raw and most of the adjustment were made there. Final adjustments were made in Photoshop. Picture is a little small to work on. I am not a professional retoucher so I would imagine there is still more that can be done. However, it is improved--in my opinion. This was done on a PC. As far as your Mac/PC problem goes--can't help. Could it be a monitor calibration problem?

Sorry about the image. According to Forum restrictions on image size (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/image-help/9077-size-quality-attached-images.html), that's the best I can do.

The photo looks good, but what exactly did you do? I could not tell if you did anything with the eyes. I cropped the photo and attached that image. Hopefully, there is enough detail to work with now.

The original picture was so small that it was impossible to see the eyes at 100%. All I did was lighten the image. Not knowing the exact lighting desired it may have been too much.

I agree.. the 100KB limit for attaching images here at RetouchPRO can be very frustrating... :sad: ... but if you follow the 2nd link under my signature you'll find help on size/quality for attached images ...

While it really is necessary to post your 'problem' images here, (everybody should be able to 'see' what this Thread was about also in future...), if the 'problem' is a detail visible only in the high resolution, full size image, you could post it in any free image hosting site ... This way we could surely be of 'better' help! :wink:

I work with with a PC so don't know much about Mac, but I agree with dc about the monitor calibration theory .... afa the monitors match issue goes, I don't know how to calibrate them so they match each other...If you intend to work on images on both of them you should definitely learn how to do it ...

I worked on the bigger image you posted ... (I use PS CS3) ...
Attachment 1 is a 100% size detail of the steps I took ...
Attachment 2 is a 200% Zoom for better seeing what I think is the 'white eyes' problem ...

I don't know the resolution of the original scan, but a high resolution would help with the retouching of the eyes. I have seen may individuals post large pictures to the picture hosting site Flickr. Here is the URL

After posting a large picture to the picture hosting site, you can put the URL that connects to your picture in your post and then member can get the larger picture.
