Haven't been around in a while so I thought I'd dust Paint Shop Pro off and see if I could remember how to use it!

Beautiful Lotus Flower. Did this one in memory of my mother who passed on a year ago. Her maiden name (Hui Yu) is honored in the red stamps shown (in Chinese Traditional characters). I have to thank Babelfish for translating the text for me (my Mom's native Korean, but around 7 generations ago, my ancestor came from China; Yu is a Chinese name). And yes, the text translates Beautiful Lotus Flower (hope I got the positions right; lol). :)

I think I met my match on this one. I can't say that I'm completely happy with the image or that I achieved the illusion of Chinese brush work, but it's as close as I'm going to get without making a career of it.

This certainly wasn't easy, but I enjoyed learning about Chinese characters, seals and art style. I took my translations from about.com. The characters in black are supposed to say "Beautiful Flower." The red seal is supposedly my first name.

There are really great entries so far, and I'm sure there will be many more. Good luck everyone.

This is the first project I have ever posted on this website. I didn't really know how to use Photoshop to create a watercolor, but after reading several tutorials this is my final result.

Hi all, I'm a newbie to this forum and love it already. Here is my contest entry. The symbols represent my name and the seal means serenity, peace, tranquility. I think this contest in itself has given us all a valuable prize...learning the the art history behind this technique.

Thanks for looking!

Linda
