I'm new to this site & would like to learn more about restoration. I have an old photo of my grandfather & want to restore it. I've done some restoration in the past & have been pleased w/ the outcome, but this image has a lot of what I think is changes in the silver in the print. Is there any way to fix this easily. I've worked on this kind of problem before, but not this much of it. I have circled the areas that I'd like help with. I would appreciate any feedback & will post the image again when I've completed it, to see what feedback I might receive form the finished restore. Thank you!

Hi blyoungs,

Here is a quick start at it for you, would have been more useful without the graffiti

I used a levels adjustment layer and pulled in the blue channel slider to the majority of the info. Select the colour of the damaged area, new layer, fill, invert, change the blending mode to colour. Curves adjustment layer, raise the midpoint till you like it, add mask, paint back in the b/ground area. Cropped the image, but that will depend if the information on the left hand side is a necessary part of the image. Proceed with healing and cloning.

Hi there

Below is another quick go.... I always check luminosity first...by removing the color I noticed the blue had the same luminosity of the good color.

All I did was open a blank layer and set the mode to color...sampled good color and painted over the blue.

I used a little dodge and burn and healing brush but did not take a lot of time.

That worked well & I like the looks of it. Thank you for the feed back!
