Hi Folks! I am having a problem that I hope you will be able to help me with. Some of my tools in my toolbox won't load whenever automatic updates adds something in my CS2 program. It can be working perfectly the day before and when updates adds something I notice that some of the tools won't work in the toolbox. For example: I have been restoring an old photo and was using the healing brushes which were working fine. Then when the updates were loaded the patch tool is the only thing that works now. My eraser nor my color replacement tools won't even work. It may not have anything to do with the updates being added, but I noticed it once before when this was done. I have "fixed" this problem twice before, but have forgotten what I did to make them work again. This is very frustrating when you're on a timeline. Please, please help me! Thanks
..... the healing brushes which were working fine. Then when the updates were loaded the patch tool is the only thing that works now.
The healing brush and the patch tool are in the same "family"
Not sure, but it looks like the toolbox reverted to the healing brush's "brother".
Have you tried opening up the tool box alternatives by clicking on the little arrow beside the tool?
I, personally, never use the toolbox - I find it easier to choose tools through the keyboard. In this case <J> will choose the patch "family" and <Shift><J> will cycle through its members.

You may need to reset your preferences. Hold down ctrl/alt/shift while starting the program. It will ask you if you want to delete your preferences.
I agree with you Ro. I keep the tool box turned off, and use the keyboard shortcuts to select my tools.

Sorry Kraellin, I will read more carefully next time to post in the correct forum. Ro, thanks for your suggestion, but I had tried both of those (going through the sub-tools and using the keyboard shortcut) and neither of those worked. Dave, UREKA!!! That was the answer I was looking for. I knew it was something I was doing while the program was uploading, I just couldn't remember what it was. It worked beautifully. I must learn all of the keyboard shortcuts so I can keep the toolbox closed. It could give me a lot more room to work.
As usual, you folks always come to the rescue. Thanks so much, again.

I am glad that this fixed your problem. It is kind of a brute force method of fixing things, but every once in awhile it is the only way to clear up a strange problem.
