a friend over on filterforge.com, Ronviers, took this picture. it is of a feral kitten which he is trying to win over. he had posted the picture over there and i asked him if i could post it here in the art forums, since i was quite taken with it. he was kind enough to say yes.

i originally was going to touch it up at first and then post it, but decided to leave it as is for you all to handle as you wish.

he also offered to send me the raw image, but i declined. if you want the raw i'd suggest contacting Ronviers through the filterforge.com email system or just post on the forums in the off topic section.

oh, and he is also looking for a home for said kitten, if anyone's interested ;)

at any rate, have fun :)

A real cute kitten for sure

added a snapart pencil sketch layer with a luminosity blend, flattened and then ran the whole thing through flaming pear's kyoto color to create this quick drawing.

nice, lyle. definitely looks like oil :)

your clean up is pretty much what i was going to post originally, olbaldy. and i like the coloration on his/her face in your rendition. would never have gone with the blueish, but seems to work.

Craig, That blue just showed up.. I guess it was in the pic to start with or my old Puter thought it needed to be there..

Tis a small world indeed.. I first saw Ronviers work on a Worth1000 contest.. (great work BTW) then found out he is one of the very helpful people in a couple Photoshop news groups I frequent.. Seems like a really nice and helpful person

Palms,
Being a Photographer for many years and trying to keep everything in sharp focus, I am afraid I am more of a Realist in the art world (which is why I find it hard to "Artify" or move the pixels around to make a painterly effect)
so I think I prefer the less smudged one.. BUT... the "Smudge-A-Lot" looks MUCH more Artistic and painterly.. As a painting it would go on my walls..

It boils down to... I like them both a lot!

I am impressed with everyones work in this forum.. You and the others are ALL True Artists!
It's just hard for me to step out of my box.. and mess with a perfectly good picture!

Ol'B - I still feel the same way sometimes until I see one of Palms' smudges -- lovely images whether out of the camera or pushing pixels, and I guess their pixels don't feel any pain if we push them around a bit! ;)

Here's mine - some edges, waterpaper, and charcoal/chalk.

OK; used your cleaned version, sharpened it up (extreme), and then ran GREYCstoration for the fake smudge. :)

LOL, Lyle.. I had to read "GREYCstoration" twice.. when I first read it, I thought you had cut something off the Grey cat... Your "fake version" looks pretty good!

Peter it looks like the kitty is saying "look how big I am!" with that glow around it

Molitar, a very serene look there

CJ, All that pixel pushin and you still have a cute feral kitten to show

Lots of superb diversification shown here

I like the "smudge-A lot" tag, that is much better than a "over the top smudge" , and that is the one i prefer out of the two

The cure to what you see as being un artisitic is easy,Try and take some rubbish photo's you will soon learn how to make them better by artifying them :grin::grin:

Thanks all for your comments, and hopefully the kitten will soon find a new home ( I have had to tell a few that unfortunately the kitten is in the USA:wink:)

yup, he's good guy, but i'm afraid he's fallen in with bad company... us, over on filter forge :D

palms, your technique is just getting better and better. loved both of those, but if i had to pick, i'd take the first one.

peter, i like that, but why did you rub his feet all over a carpet to make his hair stand on end? :D

not quite sure what you did there, molitor. care to elaborate?

interesting one, cj. the edges and watercolor mix is fairly unusual.

lyle, that's a fake smudge? i'm impressed.
