First i would not call this a decent pic. it's pretty lame. no harm intended.
What surprise me is you expect people to give you different retouch version of this pic.
This is a forum for people who want's to learn. Not to have other people do it for them.
If you are keen on learning then ask questions. post a pic where you do your before and after retouch.
then you might have more people playing along!!! yelhsaneerg 02-02-2008, 12:55 PM well excuse me for trying to bring something new to the table. I must say that i am not the only person that has posted pictures for other users to practice on. Second of all, I was in a hurry and posted this picture right before i left for work this morning, so I have not even had a chance to do anything to it myself. Third, if all you wanted to do was tell me it was a bad pic, and not to even mess around with it yourself, then why did you even waste your time replying. I'm not trying to be rude but i'm tired of always being the nice one and people here thinking they are "holier than thou". I am not the only member who has noticed this "bad aura" surrounding the site from a few "less than nice" members. Sorry to go off like this but I've just had it. yelhsaneerg 02-02-2008, 12:57 PM Oh yeah, i realize it's a forum for people to learn, which is why i posted a pic for people to PRACTICE ON. Plus i just think it's fun to see what different things people do....it's a way for ME to learn also. zogdart 02-02-2008, 02:15 PM I'm sorry you feel that way.
But when i see a post without a before and after and without a question it feels like someone is fishing for free retouch. As for the photo i'm sorry but it's just look like a snapshot. that's why I wouldn't waste my time on it. I have enough Quality picture on my hard drive that cry's to be retouch. on the other hand i might have tried to have a go at it if there would have bee a question like "how can i make her skin Black" yelhsaneerg 02-02-2008, 02:23 PM i didn't mean to attack you or anything....i just really blew my cool. Plus i also felt like i was being accused of wanting a free retouch or something....which i don't because that's really no fun....i'd rather do things myself...which is why i'm addicted to photoshop. i also thought the pic would be decent to work on because it does actually need some work. i hope this all made sense..but i don't ask to do a certain thing because i don't really have anything in mind....just seeing what creativity some other users possess and then those usually help give me some ideas too. CaptainHook 02-02-2008, 02:27 PM What about a higher-res version to start with then?
P.s no offense, but i agree with zogdart. yelhsaneerg 02-02-2008, 02:44 PM how do i get a higher resolution? i just got this camera but i haven't messed with all the settings on it. it's a canon eos digital rebel xti can you give me an idea how it should be set or something because that was the full size image i posted. pixelzombie 02-02-2008, 03:48 PM as the original poster pointed out, other people have posted pictures and some have been much worse than this one..i also don't see a problem with people asking for someone else to retouch their photo, i find that it's a good way to learn from more experienced retouchers/artists...not that she was asking for free work on her photo in the 1st place... Insensitive. 02-02-2008, 04:03 PM Although this photo is not great, don't be rude about it. There's a difference between being real and being real rude. Control your rudeness. Its highly annoying. Thank you. zogdart 02-02-2008, 04:35 PM Sorry if you feel offended, it wasn't my intention.
yelhsaneerg, for your camera probleme, you shoud go download the manual at Canon web site. you will find all the info you need. If that doesn't work for you, you should stop at a camera store, they should be able to help you...
i will let you all have good practice with this. grannysdc 02-03-2008, 07:37 PM Some simple advise for all.. Look at the join date in the upper right hand corner of the post then the post count under it.. weigh that with the voracity of the post.. take the time to click on their name and read their posts and look at their work first.. Patience is a virtue and we all may learn something..
yelhsaneerg, first off congratulations on your new site at http://www.juicyfxstudio.com/ it looks great!
Now back to the thread topic.. made some very basic corrections on this one Damo77 02-03-2008, 07:46 PM I have enough Quality picture on my hard drive that cry's to be retouch.
Oh, what I'd give to have quality originals to work on! You're a lucky man, Zogdart, if you don't have to work at the coalface of the publishing industry like I do.
OP, I think it's a perfect photo for people to practice on - thank you for contributing. CaptainHook 02-03-2008, 08:11 PM yelhsaneerg, first off congratulations on your new site at http://www.juicyfxstudio.com/ it looks great!
Even though the whole website repeats itself on the right hand side?
I recommend not having the whole design loaded as a background
image in the body tags.
Enjoy. grannysdc 02-03-2008, 08:35 PM Even though the whole website repeats itself on the right hand side?

Hmmm, Makes you sort of wonder what direction this thread is going take..
It must be hard to design a site that will show correctly on every system out there..
On my 'Puter' it looks simple, refined, elegant, and easy to maneuver around and has good content..
No repeats here.. (unless the screen zoom is less than 100%, then it repeats)... But, then again My equipment is like me.. OLD! CaptainHook 02-03-2008, 08:45 PM It must be hard to design a site that will show correctly on every system out there..
Definitely.

It's a screen resolution issue. You must be set to 800 or 1024 or something?
That IS old. Haha. Especially for any kind of visual work on a 'puter'.
I don't want to derail this thread anymore tho. Sorry. yelhsaneerg 02-03-2008, 09:34 PM Captain, actually i had no idea it was gonna repeat like that....i've never seen it do that on any of the computers i've looked at it on (ex: work, friends, my 2) lol but i'm sure it probably does lol. Thank you for your nice comments granny :D i really want it to be better but i have to find the time to figure out what direction i'm going to take with and also if i can figure out a better way to put it together. (i made the whole thing on photoshop and it really took forever because i was using yahoo site builder to actually create and publish it.) oh, and what did you do to make her hair look so shiny? i like it :DThank you Damo, i thought so to since it actually needed work...plus it was my first picture of a real person with my new camera (i've been following my dogs around with it lol) and i was just excited to post it....yes it wasn't the best pic but hey, i was at work...i couldn't expect too much.
I can't wait to actually get a good pic from my camera that i put some time into, so when i post it maybe then there won't be so much controversy ;) Damo77 02-03-2008, 09:34 PM No, CaptainHook's right. I've got a very big screen here, and sure enough, the site is repeated across it. yelhsaneerg 02-03-2008, 10:54 PM yeah i wasn't saying it didn't...i was just saying i've never had it happen on any othe screens i've viewed it on so i wasn't aware of it.
what resolution or whatever do i need to set it to when creating the site....i don't remember what i have it set on now, just whatever some tutorial told me to set it to. CaptainHook 02-03-2008, 10:57 PM Having your website a fixed pixel width OR height is asking for trouble.
Everyone has theirs set different. Try go for a design that isn't that
way reliant, or use different code that will repeat the image in x and y.
(again the design has to work that way) videosean 02-04-2008, 03:28 AM how do i get a higher resolution? i just got this camera but i haven't messed with all the settings on it. it's a canon eos digital rebel xti can you give me an idea how it should be set or something because that was the full size image i posted.
Read through the photobucket FAQ (http://photobucket.com/faq?catID=39&catSelected=f&topicID=520). They only allow 1024 by X pixel size images in free accounts I believe. Maybe you uploaded a full 10.1 MP (http://web.forret.com/tools/megapixel.asp?title=Canon+EOS+400D+(L)&width=3888&height=2592) image but photobucket resized it down?
Flickr isn't much different according to this page (http://flickr.com/help/photos/?search=image+size#18).
Imageshack (http://reg.imageshack.us/content.php?page=faq) limits file size to 1.5MB but I don't think they resize it unless you specifically use their resize option when uploading.
Bayimg (http://bayimg.com/faq) doesn't have a limit on resolution or size as far as I know.
The best option IMO for uploading full size, full resolution images is to just upload the file to your website's server (since I know you have a website :) ) instead of using a free image hosting site. I feel that I have more control over my images that way at least.
As for camera settings, dpreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos400d/page10.asp) may have what you need if that's what the problem actually is. myfairies 02-04-2008, 03:38 PM the site is very nice and elegant and shows an artistic and fantasy attitude but it looks wrong for those having a screen resolution higher than 1024. I see you set the width at 1024 but you used a program so I cannot send you the codes to fix it. What you should do is to check if you can
- put a plain background (better if the same green of now or even better totally different like black or white)
- center what you created in the browser. your program should have this feature
also the links are not perfectly aligned with the buttons and the font (of the buttons) is not a very good choice. And the text has not enough contrast.
Believe me, your site is very nice and I really hope you don't get upset. But I saw your manipulations: it's very good and I feel you need a more professional look for your site, more in line with your work.
If you can fix those little problems your professional imagine will increase. A site is a sort of business card, I only wanted to tell you how to print it more sharply! :) yelhsaneerg 03-04-2008, 08:03 PM thanks for your input MYFAIRIES.... i still haven't even tried to fix it lol it seems like i've been pretty busy but i'm not planning on promoting the site until it gets to look the way i want it to which is something i can never seem to make happen. i always have the visual in my head and i just can't get the programming to work lol. i'll have to take the time and study the issue of the screen resolution a little while because it was giving me major problems. anyhow, thanks for ur comments on my retouches :D butterfly223198 03-04-2008, 11:49 PM Well I don't care about the resolution lol if it's clear enough I can photoshop it. And I just went absolutely crazy with this one lol can you even tell it is her? subxaero 03-05-2008, 12:56 AM whattheheckisthisallaboutapparently
i'm with zodgart on this one here *need rolleyes smily here* OnAir 03-05-2008, 06:55 AM I think, an image is not bad at all, opposite - quite interesting from the point of view different approaches to color correction. She has really nice skin, and face is very interesting. |
