Hey Everyone,

I’m fairly new to this forum, and have learned a great deal so far. So BIG THANKS to all of you. I'm particularly interested in learning everything there is to know about composition. It’s interesting to see how a single photo is made up of several different others. I really love the work shown here on this website of Taylor James (http://www.taylorjames.com/)and am really interested in his composition. It’s really helpful to see the step by step analysis of each photo, which looks fairly….well for a lack of a better word….simple.

So I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tutorials or…anything for someone such as me, being an aspiring learner of mastering the technique of composition.

THANKS :)

interesting work, but the images are too small to apreciate the work involved...

click on the left navigation bar that says "retouching" and then click under the next menu "Retouch - Case Studies" this is where they show the step by step.

I think you mean compositing (building an image from several parts) not composition (the plan, placement, or arrangement of elements or ingredients). When compositing you will make a composition, but not all compositions are composited. HTH. :)

I think the most important part of realistic compositing, beyond the basic skills of masking, selecting elements, and painting shadows, is having a critical eye and being able to figure out why something doesn't look realistic yet. Of course it helps to control the photo shoot so you can make sure the light sources are all consistent!

Nice site. That is basically what I do as well. Although my web presence isn't as advanced, feel free to check me out.

Best,
