Hi guys,

Comment and Critique would be really appreciated on this shot as I've been practising a few new techniques.

Aside from the blown highlights to the left of the subjects face (it was a very sunny day) I'm pretty pleased with the results.

Let me know what you think.

Many thanks,

Matt.

Matt,

First of all the tonality and texture of the photograph are just beautiful. Personal preferences take over after there are no real technical issues to speak about and in my minds eye this image just lends itself to the b/w process. I think it will really show off all that leathery skin and gruff beard. Again, just personal preference.

This is a lovely image with great potential. Maybe a bit on the contrasty side but with some more work it could be corrected. The wrinkles and character in this mans skin speaks volumes and the color image meant absolutely nothing relevant to the final product. when I see the deep wrinkles in black and white it is somewhat a throwback to Hemingay or the Dust Bowl Days possible. There are many times although we shoot color that b/w is the way to go and I think this is a perfect example.

I would have to agree with everything sweets got to say, great photo, wonderful texture, but the skin color, a bit on the reddish side, is really distracting, a desaturated or black and white would make this piece much more attractive, in my eyes.

I would agree with namphoto...it is very nice photo.
I'm sure you would get a lot of response if you would post this on the Photo-Based Art forum.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback guys, much appreciated!

Sweetlight: I'm really liking the monotone conversion, it's a lot more striking than I had originally envisaged and will certainly look at doing something similar with the original.

Namphoto: I have to agree with the reddish colour of the skin. I have corrected this with the edit below.

Palms: Thanks for the kind comments, also attached below is a link to the original!

Many thanks guys!
