Ok if I use Marquee and make a box, then I want too make a box within that box to make like a frame look. How do I do this so both lines will stay and I can gradient in between them or bevel?
I know that if I do a Marquee all the way around the inside of a work area and hit Inverse it will marching ants the outside and when I bevel or gradient it makes a border or Frame that way.
But I want too make a framed or border area smaller than the reg full work area. Im also wanting too make custom shape borders and cant seem too get a work area like that.
I hope that describes what I am trying too do.

Thanks

Wally, sorry it is not quite clear what you are trying to do. Also your last sentence got cut off. Can you show an example of what you are trying to do?

make a selection and save as an alpha channel, then while the original selection is active select transform selection to desired size and fill with white on the alpha channel which should give you something like this...

there I used the Lasso tool and did my shape within the box then I Inverted.
Then I was able too bevel and Gradient.
How do I do Marguee then do Marquee in the other Marguee and both stay highlighted
or do I need too do Lasso and hit control too add another Lasso wish I would explain what I am trying too achieve. Different outside shape is what Im trying too do but need both too be able too gradient.

The method I always use for borders is to Select->All then Select->SaveSelection. Next Image->CanvassSize and added the same amount to height and width (say a quarter of an inch) the do Select->All and Select->SaveSelection again.

You now have two selection saved that are equal distances apart.. If you load the outside selection and them subtract the inside selection you can put the border on its own layer. You can do anything you want to make a border: Fill, gradients, filters. textures blending modes, layer masks etc...
