Hi,

I tried retouching this stock I found on sxc. First attachment is retouched, second is original. I'm still fairly new to this stuff so I'd really appreciate help on my technique. Variations are welcome as well!

White balance to remove blue cast, background desat and curves, masked curves and fairly heavy Topaz Sharpen on glass to bring it out, overlay gradients to add shadows. I didn't do the mask well, I think I expanded the selection a bit too much because there's a sort of odd halo around the glass. Oh well.

Thanks.

Sometimes a simple approach to a solution produces good results without a lot of effort. To me your adjusted image has too much contrast, losing detail in the shadows. The blue cast is also still pronounced.

I did a single curve adjustment with the gray eyedropper and added a small amount of Smart Sharpen.

Regards, Murray

Here's my go at it. Did two curves adjustments, vignette and unsharp mask. Look forward to hearing comments.

Yangez, the one thing that stands out to me is a halo or lightness around the stem and base of the glass.

Hmm, here's my attempt. Curves adjustment layer on the wine glass with a gradient on the mask. Some Hue/Sat tweaks, slight upsharp mask on wine glass.

I pulled down the blue channel, used curves to adjust the tablecloth, used S/H to bring back the background & some selective high pass to "taste"

Here's mine: I did two curves adjustments and sharpened.
