Entries are now being accepted for this month's competition -- make a post in this thread and attach your entry.

The theme for this month's competition has been chosen by the
1st Place WINNER of our February 2008 competition -- Ziaphra

Ziaphra has chosen the theme "Light and Shadows".

Subject matter is your choice, color or black/white is your choice; the goal is to make the image more interesting by use of the combination of light and shadow.

Each member may submit only one entry for this competition. You may change your entry (or submit another entry in its place) up until the deadline.

Deadline for submitting your image: Friday March 28th, 2008 at 2 am EDT.

The goal of these friendly competitions is to inspire members to grab our camera and actually use it. New photos are our goal, but we also accept recently photographed/recently processed images that fit the topic also.

We'd love to hear any shooting info you have (shutter speed, ISO, f-stop) as well as any regular photographic post-processing -- cropping, levels, saturation, dodge/burn, etc.

What does the winner get? The winner gets to choose the next assignment (this time PLUS gets all the nice accolades that come from being chosen "Winner".

Post your photo submissions in this thread, and we'll have a separate thread for discussion of this assignment and your comments regarding any of the entries that strike your fancy.

All RetouchPro members may take part in the competition and all members may vote, whether they have submitted an entry or not.

Hello !!

Here is my photograph for the March contest. I had so many to choose from but I think this really captures the topic. The photograph was taken a while ago, a year? It was taken on my old Pentax k1000 and I have no idea what film I was using or apperture/ISO etc. (I can guess at Ilford) I just know that it was taken as the sun was setting over the hill. The location is Langebaan which in South Africa is a well known spot for windsurfing and kite surfing and its really beautiful.

Hope you like it.

Thanks to the seagull that remained still for me :-)

No adjustments were made. (YES to pure black and whites that you get on film that I never seem to get digitally!!)

Backlit with a flashlight. Post production work was dodging the lights in the distance.

This is from an old sheep wagon. I have no idea what it is. They are too small to be stirrups. Whatever the case, the light and shadows were exceptional on them, but only in black and white. For some reason, color just didn't have the punch here.

Shot with a canon rebel xt at ISO 400, f8, 1/500 second, 68 mm.

One of the shots I took with the camera club at the Rawhide "Western town" near Phoenix -- used my Nikon D40 at 55mm, 200 ISO on a mostly sunny day, f8, 1/640 sec. I cropped it a bit tighter, ran Levels and Curves to correct contrast, sharpened with High Pass filter, and set to black/white.

It is of Mt Lyell near Queenstown in Tasmania. The sun broke through some cloud to reveal the mountain and trees nicely.

adjusted curves, shadows and highlight adjustment and ran a noise filter.

Hi
This is one of my favourite shots of last year. Taken in December near to the London Eye; I feel it captures the atmosphere of a winters day in London - light and shadows!
It's a Nikon digi shot with minimal curves adjustment.
