Can anyone tell me the best way to reduce sunlight coming through ears when a subject is backlit?

Thanks!
Cari

Maybe reading some to increase overall brain size? Sounds like that would block the sun:)
I could not resist everyone, sorry.

Why don't you drop a photo in here so we can help you with it..

I did a selection of both ears using Quick Mask and cpoied them to a new layer. I then used Hue/Saturation adjustment, selecting the Red channel and moving the lightness slider to the left. You don't want to make them too dark or it won't look natural for the backlit shot.

Ant ~ i like your naming conventions for layers!
Very quick and easy to see what each layer is doing.
I will have to adopt that instead of the convoluted way i name.
Thanks for that.

I used few curves adjustments taking samples from the face & masking different parts of the ears. I did some D&B to bring back the texture & fix the edges.
