Hi!

Does anybody know how to achieve this wax skin look you see on movie posters often. For exmaple this one here (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage-149-120.html)

Thanks!

It looks like straight dodge and burn to me.

It first starts off with the photographer. When they take the photo they set the sync speed high so the background and ambient light are dark and the strobes are shot with any kind of harsher lighting modifier. Using carefully placed kickers adds more light like on the side of Jacks head and Kates left arm.

After the shoot they prob. add some selective dodging and burning where they couldn't get the the strobes to do it. Heres a tutorial that has similar techniques but remember most of it is done in camera. http://www.enigma-photos.com/AmyTutorial/

Hope this helps

More likely they close down the aperture more to reduce ambient light.
Unless you have a leaf shutter, you max sync speed depending on camera
is prob gonna be around 1/250.

This example looks like it could be a composite with the background anyway.

Very true... while a higher shutter speed achieves the same effect I was thinking of stopping the shutter down...brain fart :)
