View Full Version : Creative Interpretations- Erin Spinning mikajomc 03-18-2008, 07:45 PM I asked my kids today if I could post some of their pictures for "artifying". My middle daughter Erin, who turns 4 next month, immediately got excited.
So here's a pic of her from last summer, spinning in circles.
She is looking forward to your creations :) Janet Petty 03-18-2008, 07:56 PM When I first saw the spinning thing I couldn't imagine anyone posting pictures of someone spinning fiber. That's my gig. Yee Haw! Nobody but nobody wants to see fat old me spinning cotton.
Just joking around, I hope you know. Your work is GREAT!
Janet lkroll 03-18-2008, 11:49 PM Brightened the shadows for you Jordan. :) DannyRaphael 03-19-2008, 01:19 PM Adorable pic, J... Just priceless.
Added a little Radial Blur to empasize motion, Channel Mixer (mono) plus Curves adjustment layers for the BW conversion, action for the frame. DannyRaphael 03-19-2008, 01:54 PM Here's a few more that I hope she likes...
(ah, the magic of plugins :) ) Peter S 03-19-2008, 02:22 PM Very nice pic this thanks Jordan
I was playing masks because I didn't like the way the background was coming out and was going to change it. I like this so here it is.
Peter dkcoats 03-19-2008, 03:58 PM Jordan - it's a lovely photo and I really like what you did with it.
I did four Painter versions, none of which I'm in love with. Peter S 03-19-2008, 04:09 PM I knew this would happen with this one I couldn't stop.
Peter DannyRaphael 03-19-2008, 05:26 PM I knew this would happen with this one I couldn't stop.I know exactly what you mean, hence another from me! :)
AV Brothers Puzzle Pro 2.0 sylvia1065 03-19-2008, 07:35 PM Beautiful picture, Jordan, and you guys did a wonderful job with it!!!
Sylvia Sweetlight 03-19-2008, 09:53 PM All of yall really knocked this one out of the park.
Funny Janet, because as soon as I read it I said, "Now why would anyone post photos of someone riding a bike in a spin class." Ha.
Danny, can you direct me to a tut on that pencil sketch that you did please.
C 0lBaldy 03-20-2008, 01:58 AM Giving this a try because she was excited to see different versions.
Tried (unsuccessful I might add) to create a tornado effect, but thought it looked pretty so I'm gonna post it anyway Janet Petty 03-20-2008, 06:58 AM Great work by all the artists. Such a beautiful subject with lots of potential for interpretation.
However, I must say to Danny. You stole my thunder. (Where is that little green with envy/jealousy icon?) I kept thinking I would get around to doing a puzzle and saying, "Children are all a puzzle at that age." You beat me to it. Seriously, you do nice work. Next time I'll think faster. :)
Janet Alcar 03-20-2008, 09:05 AM Lovely girl and a fine photo. Here's a watercolor interpretation using both paintengine and the impressionist plugin. Alan palms1 03-20-2008, 09:41 AM Nice work by all

Magic!!!
Peter kimlou 03-20-2008, 04:02 PM Tried to go for something a bit different. Used flexify filter to get swirl effect and blended with radial blur layer. There's a clouds layer in there and a sponge filter set to linear burn. Also some lighting effects. Hope you like...:) mikajomc 03-20-2008, 07:40 PM Oh my goodness you guys!!! You all blow me away with your talent!! :bigthmb:
I will post more tomorrow when I have more time to look at them in detail.
Thank you!!!!!!! :) pavel123 03-20-2008, 09:29 PM Thank you for the picture. lkroll 03-20-2008, 11:06 PM Used Fotosketcher (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/photo-art-resources/21018-fotosketcher.html) in colaboration with Impressionist #pencil>Geo Chaotic Chrome (size and brush mod), for this sketch. I will admit, when I first used Fotosketcher, I was not really that impressed, but after taking the result into Impressionist, it really popped my eyes open. As usual, I added a lot of other things to the mix. :) pavel123 03-21-2008, 01:09 PM Great shop, keep coming back to it.
Pavel mikajomc 03-21-2008, 02:39 PM Lyle-liked your first one, but your second one hit a home run with Erin
Danny- I really liked the first colored one you did, and your sketch is great. But just as Janet guessed, Erin is my puzzle girl, she really liked that one!
Peter-I really like that first one, with the plain background! But Erin liked the third one you did in the next set.
Sylvia- your style is always so delicate, beautiful!
OB-love the psychedelic colors
Allen- wonderful as always
Palms- I think the fairy wings were her favorite :)
Kim- very inventive!
Pavel- love your first one, would you share how you did it?
I thank all of you for your wonderful talents. Erin looked at every single one and she liked every single one. :) pavel123 03-21-2008, 03:33 PM Pavel- love your first one, would you share how you did it?
thank you. Are you referring to the colored one? mikajomc 03-21-2008, 03:48 PM yes please, the colored one pavel123 03-21-2008, 04:18 PM yes please, the colored one
Not sure that I remember all the details...the image was done in Painter and Photoshop. A brief outline:
Photoshop - changed background, shadow
Painter - cloned Photoshop image, used a large brush in cloning mode (one of the acrylic brushes) to mess up the image. then used a brush that gives just parallel lines (I think I used tapered digital sumi-e in cloning mode but I really should make a brush for that) to get some of the picture back. Background was painted with oily pastels and the same sumi-e brush, used soft clone to clone face..
moved to photoshop, made a blue sketch layer and blended with original
that's a condensed version
Pavel mikajomc 03-21-2008, 04:34 PM That's enough to get me started :) And as I've only had Painter for a few weeks, its great info.
thanks!! Kraellin 03-22-2008, 12:00 AM she looks like a surfer to me :) palms1 03-22-2008, 03:11 AM Jordan i am glad that Erin liked my version, but i admit it wasn't guess work as my granddaughters love having themselves made into fairy's ( although i think that she may change her preference for craigs version now Rainbows are a close runner )
There are some great interpretations here too many to mention each one but love them all, as well as the different styles
Here's the link to making the fairy's if you wanted a dabble
http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/photo-compositing/18102-fantasy-pics.html
and another tip dont let Erin help you make them, the decision making takes ages and ages
Palms mikajomc 03-22-2008, 06:49 AM Craig-she loves the rainbow
Palms- thanks for the fairy link.
After looking at all of them yesterday, she wanted to know if I could do one of her with wings AND the puzzle effect. Kraellin 03-23-2008, 12:17 AM jordan, great! glad she liked it :) i certainly had fun doing it :)
and palms, even if she switches her preference to mine over yours, i'll still love yours! delightfully Disney! :) mikajomc 03-26-2008, 07:15 PM Practicing my smudging. I really struggled with the skin.
I do think people are much harder than animals! :) sylvia1065 03-26-2008, 09:28 PM I do think people are much harder than animals! :)
Funny, it's the opposite for me!!
Sylvia mikajomc 03-27-2008, 04:54 AM LOL Sylvia! That IS funny. Guess its just like anything else in art (or life) everybody's different. :) DoroF 03-27-2008, 10:08 AM Not exactly the stuff, I usually do, but I thought it would be a nice idea to do a variation of this theme for my first post here.
Hope you like it. mikajomc 03-27-2008, 10:37 AM I sense a little gertrudis in there. Very nice and welcome to retouchpro! DoroF 03-27-2008, 12:58 PM *LOL* not only Gertrudis MX - there is a lot of Photoshop too...
This one is more suitable for a little girl, I think. At this age my daughters loved fairies. This time I used Poserflowers too. sylvia1065 03-27-2008, 01:22 PM Nice job, DoroF!!
Sylvia Very nice pic this thanks Jordan

I didn't mean to imply you only used gert.
Really really love your second one. Can't wait to show it to Erin tomorrow! She will love the wings :) |
