After cleaning up a photo of scatches and creases I got it too smooth by using my smudge tool. Is there a way of repacing some of that texture I took away? I am really asking is there an action available to reproduce those creases and folds and bends? I probably will overlay my new rendition with the old and fade it using the opacity slider. Having said that how do you place one copy over another and scale it precisely? I use Photoshop 7.

moving the old onto the new seems like a good idea..
No actions available to undo your mistakes..
open both images.. use the move tool.. hold down the shift key and move (slide) the old onto the new (make sure that the newly formed layer is at the top of the stack)(if they are still the same size they will auto line up) if they are off then set the layer option on the moved old layer to difference and use the transform tool to line things up (when lined up everything except for changes made will be black) when using the transform tool to change size do not forget to hold down the shift key and only adjust the size by using the corner keys (you can move it and nudge it without holding down the key)

after smudging, i'll sometimes use the clone tool to put back texture.
