I am brand new to this forum (any forums) I am so glad I found RetouchPRO. I have been working in the field of retouching photo's for about two years and have found that there has not been a lot of mentoring in this field. It seems that there is a lot of secrecy or everyone is to busy to explain how to do something. Has anyone experienced this or is it my place of employment?

that's the norm unless you find a job thats willing to have you train under the senior retouchers...

Thank you, do you think the cause of the secrecy is caused by competition or something else?

What ever happened to the idea of helping each other to succeed? to give of yourself and not expect some kind of gratification for helping someone. what has always bothered me are statements such as what do I get? or how am I going to benefit by doing this? Sorry I am getting on like this.

part of it stems from employers hiring someone for substandard wages and it also has to do with the inexperienced employees not trying to learn on their own before asking someone "how do i do this?"

That is a very good point. I want to know what others think regarding always needing some kind of gratitude should I make a new thread?
