Hey there.. Today I got a pic from my bro.. While messing around with color balance, etc I had an idea..

took a brush, selected a bloody red brown darkish color, painted, ereased, grunged a bit and blended the layer in "soft light" mode <- my favourit blending mode for quite a few applications.
to get the look right it's important to get the overall mood of the pic - via curves and tones - the desired way.. in fact, the back of his right (left on the pic) hand got like that through color tuning and almost wasn't brushed..
