i am by far no expert but this is my opinion. I think you did the first photo great looks natural and clean however the second one looks as though its a little too bright/over exposed. but i still think they look good. what did the person think to their retouched portraits?

they loved how they turned out, which is good, but im iffy on them
im still learning though, ive only had photoshop since november, and mostly made bgs and such with it, and only in the past month or so really started editing pics with it

Considering that the subject likes the white hairs sticking out and wanted minimal work done.. you did fine.. the pimples are gone.
I would have straightened both Pics.
Cropped just below necklace on 1st and highest drawstring on 2nd
Even out the light areas at the corner of right eye and the light area by the nose in the left eye (viewer R&L) 1st pic.
To me the skin tone on the un-retouched 2nd pic is better.. BUT it is all a matter of taste.
I may have tried to lighten the darker parts of the hair to show some detail.
For folks trying to grow a mustache and beard I may have enhanced some growth for them.
The subject also might have been happy being Draganized or in a style reminiscent of Dave Hill
