I've been working on this recently, and added the wheelchair. I'm trying to make it look like it's in the dark background but it still doesn't look convincing.

I guess it's the way it's reflecting that makes it stand out. I've already added a black overlay layer to tone it down but it affects the whole wheelchair rather than the shiny bits.

Does anyone know how this should be done?

I don't know how close this comes to what you want.

Try setting the layer mode of the wheel chair to multiply then adjust the opacity as needed?

Are you just trying to get the chrome to fade in and not the rest of the chair?

I want to subdue the entire chair. As it is I think it stands out a lot.

I want to subdue the entire chair. As it is I think it stands out a lot.

Think about it like this: If the chair where in that scenario it wouldn't have those highlights. Highlights are reflections of lights where's the light source here? There is none so there should be no highlights. Don't try t merge it now, take care of the highlights before even drag it to this image.

You can use SELECTIVE COLOR and play with the whites in absolute mode.

Hope it helps :)

Edited to add: The same with the needle... why do I see a white needle on her hand? The needle is see trough plastic... what am I seeing trough the plastic that's white? NOTHING :) so the needle should be a lot darker.

hi. look at the air duct in the background. it's pretty lit up from the flash so some of the reflections on the wheelchair can't not be any darker than the air duct's reflection. if you decide to tone down the reflections on the wheelchair, you should also do the same with the air duct.

ok, back to the wheelchair. was it a gif file on transparent background? i can see the white outline. if it is, you can make a selection (wheelchair) and then contract the selection a pixel or two. inverse section and then delete the outline. that would cut down the annoying halo. you can also blur the wheelchair a little bit. use levels or curves (which ever you're comfortable) to blend the wheelchair to the surrounding...
