View Full Version : need help with this effect ... like illustrated kombine 04-03-2008, 05:50 AM hello, i'm looking for a special effect, please have a look at the attached files. the first is the effect and the second the original.
i think that there is no photoshop plugin to get it, but otherwise no photoshop filter i tested generates a look like this. and i tested a lot (also in combinations).
please have a look at the details, they seem to stick together in a fibrous way and there are (typical) duplicated contours at contrasting edges. what kind of filter or filterkombination makes such results?
thanks for any suggestion ... andreas DannyRaphael 04-03-2008, 07:52 AM Perhaps a lot of work using the Smudge tool? mistermonday 04-03-2008, 07:58 AM See the difference between the two images below. It looks to me like Filter>Stylize> Glowing Edges or Show Edges was used to accentuate and boost the detail which is already in the image and then it was applied in one of the blend modes and sharpened.
Regards, Murray kombine 04-03-2008, 10:08 AM hello ... thanks for your suggestions. but i know that there is no usage of the smudge-tool.
and murray, the shopped picture looks sharper, but with less details than the original. i don't think it's something to do with glowing or show edges.
please have a look: at high contrasting edges there are TWO 'outlines' and TWO 'inlines' (right word?), especially at the sword ... and smooth areas get soft xtra-details as you mentioned, but with the edge-filters not in this 'typical' look.
i think there must be a combination of max. 2 filters to get the first typical look.
perhaps distortion>displace with a special matrix?

To me it looks very similar to what you are trying to achieve.
. Calvinhollywood 04-04-2008, 05:54 PM Oversharp the Image (with bigger Radial) and then use the Reduce Noise Filter with 10 - 0 - 0 - 0
Also try to dodge and burn a bit
lg Calvin BillFrey 04-04-2008, 06:26 PM I was able to match the effect with Topaz Vivacity sharpen plugin. mistermonday 04-04-2008, 09:03 PM Well hats off to Bill. Vivacity Sharpen creates the exact effect. I attached an example. I went a little overboard on the sharpen settings but as you can see in 10 seconds and no fiddling I got almost exactly the same result.
Regards, Murray kombine 04-05-2008, 02:53 AM hello ... shaun, YESSS, THANKS! i see, the main effect is generated with this plugin.
yesterday i made some tests with smartsharpen and the setting 'motion blur' instead of the standard gaussian blur and i got similar outlines at high contrasting edges (must be a bigger file). but there would be some xtra work to get a softer look ...
i was told that is was only photoshop, but now i think its the plugin. many thanks bill and murray, too.

It looks like the plastic wrap tool,
Copy image
Filter
Artistic
Plastic Wrap
Make adjustments to original
Then maybe look at blending modes and opacity, maybe even a mask.
I think it's the plastic wrap because of the black line around the edges
Just my thoughts Peter S 04-06-2008, 02:33 PM Have a look at Redfields Plug in Fractalius. It can give very very similar results to to this.
Peter gholmes1936 05-19-2008, 07:47 AM I go and look at these two plugin sites and get all excited, until I read the system requirements.... Nothing for the Mac, Uffda! OperaFan1981 05-27-2008, 09:39 PM Those were my thoughts too RE: Plastic wrap.

Hello,
I have tried to create the after affect of your image with Photoshop.
Copied the image in a new layer.
Filter->Sharpen->unsharp Mask
Change the amount & radius as per your requirement to get that effect.
Again
Filter->Sharpen->Smart Shape
Change the amount & radius as per your requirement to get that effect.
Get your effect as you want... gholmes1936 05-29-2008, 09:11 AM Nice try but I don't see it. I have tried myself and can't come up with anything even close to mistermonday's great effort.:mad: gholmes1936 05-29-2008, 11:07 AM hello, i'm looking for a special effect, please have a look at the attached files. the first is the effect and the second the original.
