When D+B is done and the skin looks good, do you apply sharpening to the skin?

I don't believe I have ever sharpened skin and can't imagine why I would. AltIvan 04-10-2008, 08:26 PM Because it can look better that way, but only if you have make a really good job before that. Sometimes i do, but i never use the "sharpen option"; i use the "custom" filter or make it manual, duplicate the layer, then high-pass, then linear light, and then a black layer mask. If you look at some recent work of mine in the critiques section there is a girl with a skin like that (but of course, the main parts as eyes, lips, and nose have to be also more sharpened than the original) flice 06-02-2008, 11:51 AM When D+B is done and the skin looks good, do you apply sharpening to the skin? We sure do... Sharpening is normally something you should do at the very end of retouching, ie. D&B away on skin, fix what ever needs fixing, adjust colors and add your style. Then you can sharpen... I work for a photographer referred to as "Mr. Skin" here in London, and we often use USM. Don't be affraid to push it (even above 200%...), skin detail looks awesome if you cleaned it properly. But ofcourse use your eyes. Some photographers shoot with sharpness in their cam :S EDIT: Having read your post again. If your question is: apply sharpness to skin only, then no. We put it on the overall final image. |
