I have been fooling around with Jim Caffrey's Art History Brush tutorial. See the URL for his tutorial below this.
Using the Art History Brush Tutorial by Jim Caffrey (http://www.retouchpro.com/tutorials/arthistory/index.html)
I followed his method and then went in and did a bunch of smudging, lightening around edges, etc. I don't seem to be able to see far enough ahead to be able to keep notes as to what I did. I think I could duplicate the effect tho.
Here is the my attempt and the original.

Here is another one of the boat. using other methods to arrive at a different feel.
I have been fooling around with Jim Caffrey's Art History Brush tutorial.
With all due respects to Jim, I have always thought that this tutorial has been a set-back for anyone venturing to confront the AHB.
Basically, the only thing the AHB is doing is some sort of a blur (or maybe "smudge") effect.
I followed his method and then went in and did a bunch of smudging, lightening around edges, etc.
Which probably cancelled out the "AHB" totally.
If you really wish to use AHB I would try the other tutorials.
It gets a lot more interesting than this.

I agree with Ro, the Caffrey tute is not much useful. Palms has provided a couple of very nice tutorials which are enough to one started. I suggest that anyone wanting to do ahb pick up a set of free brushes from Trimoon. The following image used a couple of brushes from that set.

My post #4 was following his tutorial. I even hunted down the brush(s) which wasn't easy for my Mac......
