Hi :)

a friend of mine has asked, if I could check with you guys :)
this is what she wrote

"do you have any idea how to remove a mass quantity of dust from a printed
photograph (before I scan it)? it's waaaaaaaay too much to depend on
photoshop to take away. but spraying with canned air doesn't do anything. i
can't wipe it with anything wet--it's super-old and has sentimental value to
someone i borrowed it from"

any ideas for her?

thanks and have a good day!!

Hi Kissed,
That canned air is useless because it does not have anywhere near the pressure you need, it has a high probability of leaving residue and damaging your surface if not used upright or too close range, and the propellents inside are not healthy to breath.
I use an ac powered air compressor - the kind you buy at Home Depot or other hardware stores. Auto supply stores also sell inexpensive smaller ac powered units capable of pressurizing tanks to 100 PSI. If you do not want to invest in a compressor, you can purchase a 5 gallon tank and a hose at your hardware store. Fill it up with air at a gas stations. One other important recommendation: Commressed air often contains moisture and sometimes there are dirt particles in the tank or hose. You can purchase (in the compressed air tools section at Home Depot) a filter which you screw in line in the hose and it will filter dust and moisture out.

Polaroid dust and scratch removal plug in for Photoshop, it's free. You can set it for light or dark dust, and several other paramaters.
