As said to Col Hogan, "I know nothing!"
I will try once again to entice PETER into making a tutorial (if just to show his mentor how well he can do it!)
Also I figured if I'm gonna Yakity yak I might as well submit another Peter S 05-06-2008, 02:33 AM As said to Col Hogan, "I know nothing!"

I'm not a writer, and I tried to do a tute before, it was rubbish and looked terrible.
But I'll have a go at a workflow for you.
Duped twice and on top layer masked out the head and shoulders with quick mask.
Selected the smudge brush and chose one of Trimoons brush presets #23 I think.
Increased the size abit and roughly smudged the BG, drawing it into the masked area, I didn't want any of the figure to show in the BG.
I then used Refields Lattice Composer (a frebie - check it out), geta a bit hazy here to remember everything, but probably softened this a little with a small amount of blur.
I would have then used (probably) another freebie - Unlpugged tools 'Spotlight' .
Then dropped down to next layer and reduced noise quite a lot (a little cheat really). Now here you won't like it but I use LucisArt at a fairly low level to emphasize the difference in tones, (doesn't sound right that but I'm sure you know what I mean)
Then with the same smudge brush as before went over the main figure, varying the size and flow, plus used darken and lighten modes in places.
Created a blank layer on top and filled with 50% grey and set to overlay added a mask based on one of the channels (cant remember which), used impressionist to add the texture and then reduced the opacity down below 50%.
Refined the mask to this layer with a black brush, at a low opacity, here and there to taste.
Tweaked the colours to layer 2 (the Gent) could have been with Selective colour in a AL or with Vivida I use both a lot.
Then some sharpening to the main layer not BG
OB I know this ain't perfect, but its the best I could manage.
And Palms BTW I'm not shirking, I have a child off school I have to look after while mum is away at her parents, her Dad is not too well.
I have to go now and force her to have a drink to keep the fluid levels up.

I'm starting to think she had me fooled, jumping on my head is a bit of a giveaway. I'm sure its a girl thing :D
Anyway its not much of a tute as its very vague, but then again I suppose settings change with every picture.
Peter 0lBaldy 05-06-2008, 11:35 AM A Gold Star for the protégé Peter.. You have probably made your Mentor very proud!
Great description of your process, Thanks! :bigthmb:
My children always seemed to get better whenever I watched them also... Hmmm.. must be a male thing!
Heres hoping the sick ones in your family have a speedy recovery.. Peter S 05-06-2008, 12:57 PM A Gold Star for the protégé Peter.. You have probably made your Mentor very proud!

Right male thing - of course I always knew I had healing hands. :D
Peter gholmes1936 05-08-2008, 03:59 PM Here is my attempt at this guy. I thought of his job and made him look like this,
also because it's the only thing that came to mind!
I used LightRoom on this one. Then I tweaked contrast a little and smoothed it using Gaussian Blur in CS2.
