I've been on this site for about a month now and have enjoyed the learning.
Most of the tutorial are pictures with text but I seem to learn more easier when visually watching video tutorials. Can someone tell me which software they are using more specifically on a Mac to do this?
I'm interested in posting my own tutorials that may hopefully be posted or linked to on this site. Much appreciated.

Hi, XXX... Welcome to RTP!
I use SnapZ Pro (from Ambrosia software) for my tutorials done on a Mac. I used it on my G5 and it still works fine on my MacPro. Runs about $80, but I also use it to screen grab YouTube vids that I want to save as QuickTime. I've also managed to capture music files and convert to MP3s with iTunes.

How big is the file size on average of a tutorial would you estimate?
I know there are alot of variables to count on but what would be average size of say "5 min. tutorial" ?

10-15mB would be about right if done at low resolution..

they key is more of the frame rate than the resolution, lynda.com keeps their files small yet keeping the resolution at 640X480 by using that trick...

When using this software can you record your voice over, or can you do that at a later time after the recording?

XXXX.. I record voice over as I'm doing the tutorial. I use my Mac firewire iSight camera as the input source.

If you just want to experiment some, for a PC try Cam Studio. It's free and works pretty well. http://camstudio.org/

I downloaded a demo of ScreenFlow which is only for Mac OS. It runs about $100 but it has the zoom function which you can highlight menu items for example with a red circle. SnapzPro is good also, but after using them both, I prefer ScreenFlow. Download both demos and give it a shot
