View Full Version : Guilty Pleasures Doug Nelson 05-10-2002, 02:49 AM No one took my hint, so I'll start this thread myself.
Guilty pleasures...movies you're kind of embarrassed to admit you enjoy.
For me these would enclude:
Roger Moore James Bond movies
Pauly Shore movies
Adam Sandler movies
Rob Schneider movies
There, now that you've all lost any tiny amount of respect you might have had for me, it's your turn. What are your guilty pleasure movies? G. Couch 05-10-2002, 10:24 AM "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" - It's soooo bad, it's funny! :ditsy: Doug Nelson 05-10-2002, 10:30 AM Dude! Most excellent recommendation! And let us not forget the bodacious sequel. G. Couch 05-10-2002, 11:17 AM ah yes... the "Bogus Journey"...Keanu's finest acting in a film ;)
Another "guilty pleasure" - Tremors... The quintessential Kevin Bacon movie! (well, besides Footloose...but no way would I ever admit to watching that!) Doug Nelson 05-10-2002, 11:28 AM Tremors was excellent, I don't even feel guilty about liking it. But you did remind me of Trancers, which I do feel guilty about enjoying (especially guilty due to my longtime schoolboy crush on Helen Hunt). G. Couch 05-10-2002, 11:35 AM I only feel guilty about the number of times I have seen Tremors! :D
Never saw Trancers...I'll have to look that one up. I guess one of mine is a tearjerker! "Terms of Endearment". An excellent movie that will really get you choked up. Now you know I'm a softie. :)
ed chris h 05-10-2002, 12:32 PM Adam Sandler, was he in that load of old cobblers the 'Wedding Singer' ? Doug Nelson 05-10-2002, 01:22 PM It's bad enough I admitted liking Sandler movies, don't make me defend them :)
What's a cobbler, and do they only come in loads? Are old cobblers worse than new cobblers? DJ Dubovsky 05-10-2002, 09:15 PM Yes!! I was going to say Tremors but you beat me to it. I watch it every time it comes on TV so I must have seen it 30 times and lately they came out with the the 3rd in the series. The creatures took to the air in that one and blew fire balls everywhere. They called them ass blasters in the movie. It was hilarious. They're great but the first one was still the best.
How bad is this, I was on a Chuck Norris kick for awhile. Watched all those movies several times and they are at the bottom of the barrel as far as acting goes.
I also loved watching Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2 over and over.
DJ thomasgeorge 05-10-2002, 11:05 PM Ed Wood movies, especially " Plan 9 from Outer Space". What can I say, I am drawn to his works ( other than the porn films he made towards the end of his life) like a Lemming to a high cliff over looking the sea....they are so bad they make you feel good. Devoid of plot, talent, script,with miserable props and outlandish make up, they have a peculiar sedative effect when watched intently.....Tom G. Couch 05-10-2002, 11:15 PM I forgot all about "Plan 9 from Outer Space"! I don't remember much about it except being able to see the strings holding up the space ships and...something about zombies?
Godzilla movies are another guilty pleasure...especially the one with Mothra! thomasgeorge 05-11-2002, 07:02 AM RE; Plan 9......The "Special Effects" are so astonishingly crude as to induce uncontrollable hysterical laughter when viewed....once the stunned astonishment dissapates.....Tom chris h 05-11-2002, 12:17 PM Was 'Plan 9' on similar line to Buster Crabbs sets in Flash Gordon with sparklers attached to the space ships or perhaps not as sophisticated ! I always had a soft spot for Ming the Merciless myself.
Doug, 'Cobblers' the dangly bits on stallions ! thomasgeorge 05-11-2002, 12:30 PM Along the same lines, only much less sophisticated... Tom ravenmd 05-28-2002, 08:37 PM ok.. I hardly know you guys but you seem like a fun bunch who can be discreet about such things...
my guilty pleasure is....
(looks over both sholders furtively)
Antonio Banderas movies
(turns red and instantly regrets her confession..) DJ Dubovsky 05-28-2002, 08:49 PM :lol: That was cute Ravenmd. Hey, he's hot. What can you say.
DJ DannyRaphael 05-28-2002, 10:23 PM James Bond flicks with Sean Connery.
The original M*A*S*H.
Blazing Saddles (has anyone besides me noticed the picture hanging behind the bar in the saloon of the horses humping?)
Bullit w/Steve McQueen.
French Connection
Dirty Harry flicks w/Clint Eastwood. ("Go ahead... Make my day"!)
Beverly Hills Cop - I
Indiana Jones flicks.
~~~~~~~~~~
Guilty pleasures in that I don't think I'd be too keen on my 4 and 6 year olds seeing any of them, 'cept perhaps the Indy Jones flicks, but all the bugs and snakes would scare the begebbers out of them. Doug Nelson 03-15-2003, 11:17 PM I just re-re-re-re-rewatched "The Last Boy Scout" yesterday, and was reminded of this thread. So my new addition here would be movies written by Shane Black. They're cliches and predictable, but the man does have a way with buddy-movie dialog. themanda 03-15-2003, 11:39 PM For me, it's any Harryhausen film. Clash of the Titans is the current fav... |
