The opposite of the other thread. What will let you know ahead of time that it will probably be a good movie? Here's some of mine:

Alan Rickman is in it
Woody Allen directed it
David Mamet wrote it

I expect a good movie if:

- Stanley Kubrick (http://kubrickfilms.warnerbros.com/mainmenu/mainmenu.html) directed it
- Alfred Hitchcock (http://www.moma.org/filmvideo/hitchcock/overview.html) directed it
- it is about time travel
- the plot centers around a crew on a submarine

If Paul Newman and Robert Redford are in it together, it's gotta be good.

Ed ..

as great as they are/were, the way the business goes, we won't be seeing any more films starring them.

I'm not sure that's the way the business goes, with some of the other actors who have gotten together at an older age. For example, Jack Lemon and Walter Mathow, also Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda. But with Robert Redford being unofficially retired, chances are we won't be seeing them together again.
