View Full Version : Actions, brushes, swatches, styles, textures etc. Jakaleena 06-04-2002, 06:37 PM After hunting all over the site several times for an action someone posted, and after a very good suggestion from Stephen M to gather our "goodies" together for easy access, I'm starting this thread to hopefully round them all up.
If you have a particular goodie you'd like to add, please use your subject line to indicate briefly what it is and what it does (like this).
Action: Decrack
Texture: Denim
Then, in the message box, give a brief description of what it does and attach it as a .zip file (don't forget the 100k size limit). That way it can be easily and quickly found by anyone who's looking.
If you've already posted a goodie somewhere else in the forums, please go ahead and repost it here. Jakaleena 06-04-2002, 06:39 PM Clean up cracks and tears with this action.

In a nutshell the grayscale tone or color of interest is selected using the Eyedropper tool... then the action invokes the SELECT/COLOR RANGE function to create a selection, which is used against the base posterized layer to create a new layer. Attached to this new post is my v5.x or higher SmartDuster action - which is designed to remove many small dust artifacts without sacrificing image quality. Often only this step is needed, other times the harsher spotting action is needed in addition - and then some manual retouching to polish things off. -T jeaniesa 06-18-2002, 10:34 AM This action creates an 8-segment kaleidoscope. (Versions for different numbers of segments are on the way.)
Update: The action file included in the zip file contains actions for 6-, 8-, 10- and 12-segment kaleidoscopes. However, because of upload file size restrictions, I am only able to include one GIF file needed to complete the kaleidoscope - in this case, the 8-segment one.
Zip files for the other kaleidoscopes follow this post.

I found a great action that does a ton of the work for you!
It's called "Another Painter" and I found it in Adobe Xchange Actions. It's actually quite a neat little program.
Lisa T Paul 06-22-2002, 11:27 AM In photoshop, you can actually place actions in any directory you want. When you go to load the action, just browse to that location. Typically they are located in the Adobe Goodies folder under actions.
To load an action set, go to the Actions palette, then click the small arrow in the top right corner and navigate to the location where you saved the action. Select the file you'd like to load and it will be added to the actions palette.

This action will create a device independent LAB mode document for calibration and evaluation purposes - for either monitor, output device or simply to test a ICC profile transform to another colour mode.
The upper section contains a digital approximation of a GretagMacbeth ColorChecker target. The middle section contains a neutral grayscale gradient and steps. The lower section will use a random cloud pattern to form seven CG test 'images' - with casts ranging from R/G/B/Neutral/C/M/Y.

Stephen Marsh. Stephen M 07-05-2002, 03:30 AM Due to the way that the healing tools work - healing must be done to destination pixels and not transparency.
You can either choose to heal to larger areas which have been isolated on a new layer, or simply heal on a dupe of the entire image layer.
After healing, run this Photoshop v7 action to isolate the healing and clone stamp edits, in effect this will mimic the popular clone stamp technique used on a transparent layer.

Here's a screenshot attached. When you post a message, you will see the screen in the screenshot. When you want to post a link, go to the web page you want to link to. Highlight the URL in the address bar, then hit "Ctrl" and "C" on the keyboard. This will copy the URL. Now type your message just as you did your last one (but with different text). When you want to post the link, click on http (highlighted on screenshot). The first box that appears is for your text, which in this case would be edgarian blur. Hit OK. The next box is for the URL. Just hit "CTRL" and "V" on the keyboard. This will paste the URL in the box. Click OK, and your done. If your not confident, try it out in the "Testing 1-2-3" forum. And thanks for the link.

http://www.digitalsecrets.net/secrets/polarizer.html DannyRaphael 07-20-2002, 02:08 PM This action was developed for the purpose of creating "Photo Art" in conjunction with this thread (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3396#post26203) in the Photo-based Art forum.
Using the Trace Contour filter on a copy of the original image it creates nine separate layers based on brightness levels incremented by 25, and places them against a white background.
The multiple layers give the user flexibility in deciding things like which layers to show or hide, line thickness and colorization. For more information, see the thread noted above.

wishy Stephen M 08-05-2002, 03:41 AM Photoshop 6 or hither action, zip compressed.
Run this action on a RGB file that does not have a tagged ICC profile describing the colour intention of the files numbers.
This action will assign the four standard RGB work space profiles and create a named history snapshot of that profile. When you are happy of the visual appearance and or CMYK/LAB number readouts for known/presumed colours - simply save/close the file to include the tag which you prefer. The next time the file is opened the correct tag will be in place and the history states will be cleared.
The script is easily modified if you wish to add other RGB profiles to the action, such as ProPhoto RGB or other wide gamut spaces.

It's purpose is to provide an easy way to make one (or more) selections within a color image and change those selections to grayscale.
It was developed and tested using Photoshop 5.5 under Windows 2000.
~DannyR~ DannyRaphael 08-10-2002, 09:48 AM This action was used to form the base image for my entry in the Photo-Art Challenge #7 (http://www.retouchpro.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=472).
It utilizes the Difference blend mode + the Ocean Ripple filter to achieve an unusual photo-art effect.
Note: The attachment is a replacement. The original had a bug when executed under PS7. john_opitz 08-14-2002, 07:30 AM Free Dust and Scratches removal plug-in for A.P.S.

Dust and Scratches Removal plug-in (http://www.polaroid.com/service/software/poladsr/poladsr.html) DannyRaphael 08-16-2002, 02:05 AM This action was used to create the image in this Photo-Art forum thread (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=28226#post28226). It was inspired by the results I got on Manipulation Challenge #18 (http://www.retouchpro.com/challenge/manipulation/challenge18/challengeM18_raphael.html), which happens to be a Tiger hence the name of this action.
It utilizes various blend modes, the Photocopy and Gaussian Blur filters, plus a copy of the original image converted to bitmap mode created in and copied from a separate image.
The result is reminiscent of a combination of Threshold, Posterization, Stamp and Photocopy all rolled into one. To me what makes the results of this action unique (and worthy of preserving in an action) is the considerably higher level of detail achieved over plain ol' Threshold and/or Stamp, while retaining the stark contrast of these effects.
Keep having fun!
~DannyR~ DJ Dubovsky 08-16-2002, 07:40 PM This is an action I created from a tutoral I had done. It took alot of tweeking to get it to work right but here it is. I thought it would be useful in that it's a pretty realistic eye and with some images I figured it might be a nice replacement for a missing eye.
The action keeps the layers in tact so you will have the ability to access the hue saturation layer to change the eye color. Hope you like it. I've never made an action of this magnitude before.
DJ Why is it I can see that action being used in a Halloween challenge? :D
Ed DannyRaphael 08-22-2002, 11:04 AM This action converts a color image to grayscale and then lets the "artist" selectively restore color onto a separate layer via an image snapshot and History brush.
This action is non-destructive. A duplicate is taken of the original image; all work is done on the copy.
This was developed/tested under Photoshop 5.5. It "should" work OK under Photoshop 6 and 7 as well.

~DannyR~ jerry 12-11-2002, 06:29 AM Hi Danny
I just got back from a trip and loaded stipple engraving action.. I thought it looked interesting..this action does not work for me..When I loaded it, It would not run so I tried line by line to run it but it kept stopping..I noticed that it put about 5 lines in the button mode menu instead of 1..there was no title to it..the first line was "introduction"..I dont know what happened so I removed it from the file (I was using my spare actions file not the photoshop actions file so as not to mess up my menu like so many others complained about.) But it is still there when I load photoshop..
How can you remove one action from photoshop without removing all of the others..I never did this before..I see the reset option..Is that what you must do??
On a non related note, I remember you speaking one time about PS7.0 having the capability to use a programming language or something like that to write actions..Can you tell me the name of that aspect of action writing..
Thanks in advance
Jerry :D DannyRaphael 12-11-2002, 07:13 AM Hi Jerry:
Thanks for posting your question. 20-20 hindsight: I should have put more emphasis on the fact that there are 5 actions within this set (instead of the typical one), hence multiple entries in your action button mode menu. (I'll revise the verbiage in the post in a minute to clarify this.) Each action must be run separately.
RE: Removing actions from the Photoshop environment
1. Actions palette menu: Button Mode (must be off). This will change the "look" of the actions palette.
2. Click the triangle next to the action set name to reveal the action(s) inside it (if not already revealed).
3. To remove an individual action from the actions palette, drag the action over the trashcan icon at the bottom of the actions palette. To remove an entire set of actions, click on the action set name and drag the action set over the trashcan icon.
4. Actions palette menu: Button Mode (set on) will put you back into button mode.
If you want to remove the actions from your computer completely, the .atn you downloaded and unzipped will have to be deleted separately -- just as you would delete any file: Navigate to it, and either click and drag the file to the Windows trashcan on the Desktop -or- right-click on the filename and choose DELETE from the menu.
RE: PS7 programming
This is referred to as "Scripting" in which Java or Visual Basic are used to program Photoshop to do anything imaginable. This requires a download (separate functionality) from Adobe.com to get started.
I'm barely VB literate and have zero Java experience. Although this is an area I've personally not gotten into, many others have. There's a fair amount activity in this subject on the Windows / Photoshop forum at Adobe.com.
Thanks again for asking. Hope this helps.

~DannyR~ jerry 12-18-2002, 05:39 PM HI Danny
Thanks for the cool action..I had actually found the steps for this on "that other site" ..It really is a nice technique..when I ran the action, I got an error message that said "layer C=multiply is not available". I kept going and found the end results to be acceptable..Then I started fooling around and turned all of the layers on..I REALLY thought that this was a nice result and wanted to show it to you..Thanks for all of your action effort..You must not sleep much..
Jerry
:D
P.S. I had to downsize this NUMEROUS times to get it to upload..this is my last try..hope it works.. DannyRaphael 12-18-2002, 08:15 PM Jerry:
Appreciate the error heads up. I got a report earlier from Dave Jaseck and made the fix. The updated download (is that some sort of oxymoron?) works end-to-end now on Photoshop 5.5, 6 and 7. Heck, if MSFT can post fixes online, why can't I?! :) In any event glad you were able to work through my oversight.
This action works well on some pics; not so good on others. You have a way of coming up with good ones to start with which goes a long way toward getting pleasing results like you got. A definite 2-thumbs up.
Sleep? That's just an annoyance that takes me away from learning new stuff and having more fun!

This action is based on Russell Brown's method of using two Hue/Saturation adjustment layers to enable one a great deal of tonal control when converting a color image to black and white. Click “More tips” at http://www.russellbrown.com/ and check out his outstanding “Seeing in Black and White” tutorial.
In Brown’s method the bottom adjustment layer, set to color, acts as a filter would in a film camera. The second (top) acts as “the film.”
Tonal tuning is possible by adjusting the controls in the bottom adjustment layer for each color selected from the Edit menu.
My action takes this concept a step further by using a Selective Color instead of Hue/Saturation adjustment layer as the “filter” (bottom) layer. Instead of six target colors available in the Hue/Saturation dropdown menu, Selective Color has eight plus the the ability to adjust each by individual CMYK sliders.
The degree of tonal variance available for a given color will depend on its degree of presence in the original color image. For example if yellow is chosen from the menu, adjusting the CMYK sliders will have practically no effect if there’s no yellow in the image.
The 'neutrals' target color is the most active and the one I would chose first.
If you are already using the Russell Brown technique, this variation offers a compelling alternative.

Stephen Marsh. gyrgrls 12-03-2003, 11:13 AM Not much, but it works around a known
photoshop bug: if you are editing in pixels,
and set values to percentages when recording
an action, the settings will revert back to pixels
when the action is subsequently saved.
Therefore, relative positioning is lost, unless every
single file to which the action is applied is exactly
of the same pixel dimensions.
So, I changed the Units & Rulers to percentage,
then recorded and _saved_ the action, before
changing back to pixels. Now, the action will
place four guides, evenly spaced; two horizontally,
and two vertically, evenly dividing the canvas
into nine rectangles.
Someone might find it useful. :) DannyRaphael 12-03-2003, 12:07 PM gyrgrls:

Welcome to RetouchPRO. We've all been where you are (at the beginning) at one time or another, so no problem.
Once you've download the .zip file onto your hard disk:
* Unzip it and place the .atn file a convenient location. Some people like to put all their .atn files downloaded from the Internet into a single folder. In the big scheme of things, Photoshop really doesn't care where you put it. Make it easy on yourself.
* Open Photoshop
* If the Actions Palette is visible, Window > Actions (or F9) to show it
* From the Actions Palette menu (black arrow, top right), choose Load Actions... and navigate to the .atn file.
* Click on it so it's name populates the Load Actions window; click OK. This will copy the .atn file into the Actions Palette (it will be appended as the last entry at the bottom) and you'll be good to go.
To apply the action you'll need an open image. Probably not a bad idea to duplicate it, just in case the action trashes it. Not likely, but just in case.
Within the Actions Palette you will see a horizontal gray bars. These are "action sets," comparable to folders for organizing actions. Inside the Decrack action set is the action itself (horizontal white bar). Click on the action name, highlighting it. (This tells Photoshop what action to play.)
At the bottom of the Actions palette are several controls, one of which is a triangle. Click the triangle to play the action. There are two self-explanatory prompts to which you can reply OK to each. In the High Pass filter dialog, set the radius as you deem appropriate for the subject image.
When the action completes, if you don't like the results, drag the layer created by the action into the trash and play the action again, specifying a different High Pass setting.
Check Photoshop's help on "Automating tasks" as well as www.AtnCentral.com, where you'll find an excellent tutorial on actions.
Hope this gets you moving.
~Danny~ john_opitz 11-11-2004, 10:35 AM Their are Four actions in this zip folder for highlight and shadow control. Luminosity,Red,Green,Blue. The whole key in using them, is in the blurring of the duplicated channels. These actions are based on Dan (The Man) Margulis' article in Electronic Publishing (Sept.2004)(free reg. required)
Making Two Ends Meet (http://ep.pennnet.com/UserReg/login_form.cfm?referringurl=http%3A%2F%2Fep%2Epennnet%2Ecom%2FArticles%2FArticle%5FDisplay%2Ecfm%3FSection%3DArchives%26Subsection%3DDisplay%26ARTICLE%5FID%3D212330%26KEYWORD%3DDan%2520MArgulis)
as well as Photoshop User Magazine. The article explains on how to use these actions for highlight and shadow control. The only thing you have to do, is while these actions are running is to apply a blur (action prompt) to the highlight and shadow of the duplicated channel. Which one to use for your type of work? Please refer to the above hyper link to read the article. Again... It's free. If in doubt, use the "luminosity" action. In fleshtones use the "Red" action. Setting the blur between 10 and 20 is good. The power of these actions is blurring the highlight and shadow with seperate settings. These actions have been tested for P.S.CS and 6. They will not alter your layered file. As always, please run these actions on a test file before using on a live file. These actions are much like the highlight and shadow command in P.S. CS. These actions give you more control over this process though. To some the highlight and shadow command might be faster, Also the command has a sharpening factor, as well as additional controls for adding color. This action "could" be useful for P.S. Elements. I have not tested this though. As I know very little about this program, or how to use it.
John
p.s. Forgot one important thing. When the action finishes. You can adjust the shadow and highlight layers opacity, to taste. DannyRaphael 11-11-2004, 11:13 AM Great golden nuggets, John.
Thanks for sharing.
~Danny~ DannyRaphael 12-02-2004, 10:31 PM Here's an action that probably won't have a lot of practical value, but it could be educational if you're into dissecting actions. It is based on this tutorial (http://www.designertoday.com/tabindex-16/tabId-19/itemid-1356/DesktopDefault.aspx).
It applies two not-frequently-used filters, Stylize > Extrude and Distort > Polar Coordinates to create a colorful starburst.
You can play it using the default settings and pre-selected colors or select custom colors as the action progresses.
Have fun...

Greetings, Wayne:
Two very interesting actions. Thanks very much for sharing your craftsmanship.
Don't take the following as "complaints" or "criticisms." They are suggestions to consider that would make your actions a little more user friendly and flexible:
* Instead of an Image > Adjustment > Curves step, record a Curves Adjustment Layer. This would allow the user to fine tune the effect once the action completes. It also avoids a nasty "Curves command not available" error message that will be generated under some circumstances if the user is applying the action to a multiple layer file.
* Once the adjustment layer is created, rename it to "Curves - C41 to E6" (or E6 to C41). That would help keep track of what effect was applied 6 months from now, long after I forget which one I used, when somebody asks, "How'd you DO that?"
* Next, record a "move current layer - to front" command. Normally you have to do this after the first pass of action recording is finished. The open image will need to have at least 2 layers plus the Background. Click on any layer as long as it's not the Background and not the top layer. Click the Record control at the bottom of the Actions Palette. (assuming Windows), while holding down Shift and Ctrl, hit the ] (right bracket) key. This will move the selected layer to the top of the layer stack. STOP recording.
Why do this? It ensures the Adjustment Layer will always reside at the top of the layer stack regardless of how may layers the image has or what layer is active when the action is applied. It's just a little insurance against getting unexpected results.
Check THIS POST (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=78297#poststop) for an example I was able to create by messing with a Curves Adjustment Layer settings.
Again, your sharing is greatly appreciated. I had a lot of fun experimenting with both actions.

Wayne Danny,
I like to download these actions from all these people who are smarter than me and then play with them. Most of course aren't what I thought so now I have another .atn that I must erase for space sake or...
Is there a method to be able to "folderise" these actions in groupings such as: Main tested folders [with such things as ones I've written]; ...color balancing atns; ...ones to test out... and be able to mount your suggested downloads for here to the 'ones to test' then move to the appropriate folder or the trash as necessary? Is it possible to organise atn s by a folder/set grouping? HOW
I know that atn's may be organized in sets but I haven't a clue how that works. I remember how happy I was at finding you 'Mother of all atn sets' years ago and loading them. So many had no bearing on what I did but; I had no idea how to organize them so the list was so long I ended up scrapping all so I could figure out my atn list. The result of course was I almost never use a downloaded atn. ASIDE, Danny this could be a good Tutorial in another thread

Hi Robert:
To create a new Action Set, click on the New Set icon at the bottom of the Actions Palette (the one that looks like manilla folder).
Generally speaking you can add as many new Action Sets as you like and name them accordingly, e.g., Black and White, Sharpening, Art, Frames, etc. Then you can drag/drop (move) actions from Action Set A into Action Set B all day long.
Similarly for individual actions (or entire Action Sets) you don't like or don't need, just drag/drop them into the Actions Palette Trash. Done deal. No need to keep things of no value.
Unfortunately Photoshop restricts one to a single level of Action Sets (aka: an action folders), that is, you cannot have an Action Set inside an Action Set like you can Windows file folders inside of Windows folders. This limitation makes organizing actions within the Actions Palette challenging for those who hord actions like I do.
When it comes to an organization scheme, there's no "right or wrong" way. It's like organizing your kitchen or office: You do what works for you and it may take years (literally) to fine tune the process/scheme.
A second dimension is how to organize .atn files on your hard disk. This and other action organization-related topics are covered in agonizing depth in a tutorial I wrote which can be downloaded from http://www.AtnCentral.com. (Click "Tutorial" at the top of the page). If you haven't yet, check out that section (about 2/3 into it). After having done so, feel free to ask more questions or for clarification. I'll be glad to help.

No worries, Wayne. You did just fine. Everyone starts at the same place when it comes to writing actions: The beginning. You get better with practice and experience.

Sure... Go for it. swanseamale47 01-08-2005, 11:07 AM Heres a set I made a while ago, it's a set of four sharpning actions, one is a high pass sharpner and the other three (2 3 and 4) use a more complicated arrangment of glowing edges, gausine blue, and the USM. The actions are non-destructive (they make a duplicate image as first step) they were made for medium size images 4-8 MP I would recomend no 2 as a starting point, 4 being quite strong. NB 2 3 and 4 may not work on lab colour or greyscale images (untested) Wayne DannyRaphael 01-09-2005, 02:12 AM Overall a solid group of actions, Wayne. The high-pass action worked like magic.
A couple suggestions:
* I might include most of what you said in your descriptive text above in a "ReadMe" action that consisted of 2-3 Stop commands. Having your comments within a action in this group would be a helpful addition/reminder for not-so-good memories (like my own).
* Waynes sharpner 3: Did you mean to include a Duplicate Image command at the outset like the other actions?
* In addition to the Duplicate First Document step at the beginning of each action (a good practice, in my opinion), consider adding a Duplicate Background step and apply the sharpening to it. That way when each action finishes one has the sharpened and original layers in the same image.
* On the action names I believe you meant to use "sharpening," not "sharpning."
If you ever want to replace an attached file with an updated one, click the Edit button on your post, then Manage Attachments (again), delete the currrent attachment and upload a replacement.
This is a very useful set of actions, especially for those not familiar with high-pass or edge mask sharpening methods. Well done.
==> Send me an e-mail, please (click my name above for the menu).
~Danny~ swanseamale47 01-09-2005, 04:10 AM I have edited the last set of actions, I didn't reilise that no 3 didn't have a duplicate image command so I have remade that action, and (hopefull) it now will make a duplicate image.
When I get the time I will remake the whole set, possibly adding some other usefull actions I have made.
I apoligise for any errors in the actions, I'm fairly new to making them, so I'm still finding my way, but I wanted to share them with the other fourum users. Wayne bev from oz 09-28-2005, 10:19 PM :classic: :classic: :classic:

Glad you followed the yellow brick road and found RetouchPRO. :D
This is an excellent question. While on the surface it would seem like the answer should be fairly straight forward, it's a little messier than that.
In case others who are reading this thread are not aware, the Art History Brush is a Photoshop tool, which can use any of Photoshop's brushes, e.g., soft-edged, hard-edged, watercolor, scatter, etc.
For the context of this thread Photoshop supports two file types:
* Brush libraries (*.abr), which may consist of one or more brushes (see above)
* Presets (*.tpl), with are Photoshop tool specific, e.g., Art History Brush, Crop, Dodge, Burn, etc.
Technically there's no such thing as an "Art History Brush file." If the file to which you're referring has a .tpl file suffix (an "Art History Brush preset"), then "No, it won't work in Painter or Paint Shop Pro."
If it has an .abr file suffix, as I recall the .abr suffix can be renamed to whatever Paint Shop Pro uses for its brush files and Paint Shop Pro will recognize it. If applicable you'll just have to try it to see if I'm dreaming (a definite possibility) or not on this one.
Unfortunately there's no such file name modification that will make an .abr file compatible with Painter.
Wish the news was better for your 1st RetouchPRO thread... :)
...but I'm sure glad you asked.

I also downloaded Impressionist but I am having a time finding just the right thing. :confused:Bottom line: Achieving a realistic watercolor look with Photoshop actions just isn't doable, assuming you're going for that wet-on-wet look where colors kind of fade together and/or have that dried unevenly look on paper. In fact I don't recall ever seeing any decent watercolor out of Photoshop, regardless of method.
Impressionist isn't going to be of much help watercolor-wise, either. It does some styles OK, e.g., oils, charcoal, chalk, dry brush -- but not WC.
The best WC effect I've seen in quite a while was created by Retouch member Goldcoin. She said she used Painter 6.0, not to be confused with Painter IX which is the current version as of 10/05.
Here are a few examples by Goldcoin, who does some great work:

On the right photo, the Buzz plugin can yield a semi-decent watercolor look, so you might want to give that a look: www.Fo2pix.com.

After unzipping the .zip, file "Vincent.set" needs to be placed inside \Impressionist\Impressionist accessories\User Settings. Once the .set file is in \User Settings and you've shutdown/restarted Photoshop, when you click the Styles button on in the Impressionist dialog, the (new) Vincent category will appear just above Watercolor. Regarding where to put the .atn file on your hard disk many people create a folder in a convenient location (your call on where) and name it something like \my actions or \actions from the net or whatever... and use this folder as a repository for actions they acquire.
After downloading/unzipping/saving the .atn file...
* Open Photoshop
* Press F9 to show the Actions Palette if it's not yet visible
* From the Actions Palette menu (arrow/top right) choose Load Actions...
* Navigate to the just unzipped .atn file and click Load. This copies the contents of the .atn file into Photoshop.

KelleyHi Kelley...
I don't have CS2 installed yet, but in PS7 brush "Dune grass" is in the default brush collection. I would expect this would be true in CS2, too. Can't hurt to try, right?
Give this a go...
Open the Brushes palette, click the arrow at the top/right of the palette and choose "Reset brushes" from the flyout menu.
* If you click OK, Photoshop will completely replace all the exting brushes in the Brushes palette with the original set. You'll end up with the brushes just as they were the day you installed CS2.
* If you click Append, Photoshop will add the default brush collection to the end of the palette. This will preserve (not replace) the brushes are they are now. Afterwards you'll need to delete the brushes you don't want, as there will most likely be many duplicates.
Does this help?
~Danny~ kneff 02-01-2006, 03:48 PM Danny...it worked! Thank you so much. I have tried to download that for three days straight now. Again, thanks a million!! HroadhogD1 02-01-2006, 05:03 PM Danny, I followed the directions you gave me, (at least I think I did) but I am evidently doing something wrong. Do you have any other ideas that you can give me? Thanks you very much for your patience. HroadhogD1 02-01-2006, 05:06 PM Opps, I thought I was still on the page I put my post on yesterday. I was trying to get the actions downloaded on my photoshop, like the decrack action. Thank you. Thanks you very much for your patience. No worries. Hang in there... Once you get over this little hump, the lightbulb will come on and you'll be set for life. :)
To assess your experience, have you played an action before? If not, no problem. It's important for me to know so I don't make further assumptions.
Which of these steps have you taken? (I need to know how far along you got):
1. Downloaded the decrack .zip file from RetouchPRO onto your hard disk
2. Unzipped the .zip file and put the .atn file that was inside somewhere on your hard disk (Where? What folder?)
3. Opened Photoshop
4. Made sure the Actions Palette is visible (F9 if its not)
5. Selected Load Actions... from the Actions Palette menu
6. Found the unzipped .atn file on your hard disk and loaded it into the Actions Palette
If you got this far, why do you think there is something wrong? What are the indicators? HroadhogD1 02-01-2006, 07:43 PM Well, you were right. I wasnt pressing the play button, I was pressing the record button. Thank you so much for your help. Oh, by the way, you were right about the H for Harley. I will see where these new actions take me. I love learning photoshop. It went real slow at first, but now its starting to pick up. Thanks again. DannyRaphael 02-01-2006, 08:52 PM Well, you were right. The ol' Play button. Been there/done that myself.")
Be patient... days like this come up once in awhile. Photoshop can feel like a monster to learn, but can definitely be tamed. Next time you get stuck cut yourself a little slack, give it your best shot, then wave the white flag. No point spending hours struggling when willing help is at hand.
Keep on learning, havin' fun and ridin' that big Hog. :) I saw a post somewhere in the forums that is older i think, and it had an eyelash brush,... does anyone have this brush? When I tried to download it. it wouldn't download. If you were looking here...

...it appears you need to be registered at that site (I'm not) and logged on in order to download files. Were you registered and logged on?
If you were registered/logged on, are you Mac or Windows? What browser are you using?
If you have virus protection in place or an active Internet firewall, those may be blocking the download. palms1 06-04-2006, 11:53 AM If you go to link on Danny's previous post under the picture of a eye (with eyelashes) click download to desktop the download should start (member or not i am but didn't log in) I have just downloaded it ! ! !

AlanHello, Alan...
Welcome to RetouchPRO. I am not aware of any existing actions to do this, but I am pretty handy at action writing, so I might be able to help you out.
Is your intent to run the action on one image at a time, or would you prefer to apply it in batch -- to a folder of images?
If you could upload a couple example images you have already digitally framed (manually) to your liking, that would help a lot, too. (Use Photoshop's File > Save for Web to easily size below the 100kb per image maximum.)
~Danny~ Alan Schofield 10-30-2006, 02:10 AM Hi Danny
Many thanks for your reply, the type of border I am looking for is similar to one around the photo attached ( with I did not take but have copied to show you ).
I would like it only for one image at a time upright & view, & c/w grey lines not white, also how has the photographer shaded area's on his photo, I am a complete novice when it comes to photoshop sorry
Thanks

AlanOK... The example image helped, thanks.
Click my name above and send me an e-mail through the forum e-mail dialog, if you would please. I will reply with the .atn I wrote attached and you can try it. When we finish working through modifications via e-mail, I will post the final result here at RetouchPRO.
Don't worry about being a novice. Everyone starts out where you are now. :) Alan Schofield 11-02-2006, 05:56 AM A HUGE PUBLIC THANK YOU TO DANNY

Welcome to RetouchPRO.
The .atn file you downloaded must be loaded (copied) from your hard disk into Photoshop. Here are a couple of tutorials on actions that will help get you started:
