With the new Star wars movie being out I had to do this.

Thanks....Well first of all I wasn't holding anything in the picture at all. I looked on the net and found the picture below, removed it from the background, removed the beam and scaled it down to size on its own layer.

Once I had the handle moved into position, I reduced the opacity of the handle layer and began erasing parts of the handle where my hand needed to be. Once staisfied I returned that layer back to 100% opacity.

Now for the beam, on another layer I used the line tool with the foreground color set to the lightest possible shade of red I could get (almost white). Rasterized that layer and moved the beam into place. On the beam layer I went into the blending options and set the inner glow and outer glow for these I used more of a deeper red color and played around with the choke and spread settings unti I got what I wanted.

Oh yeah one more thing, a small lens flare at the base of the beam.

Now every Star Wars episode I've ever seen, it's the bad guy that weilds the red light sabre. Are you trying to tell us something Steve??? That and sporting a Harley biker shirt. Hmmmm. Looks like we got one tough hombre among us. :D

All humor aside, excellent neon light effect and you're right, the glow at the base adds a cool realism to it.

I remember the first Star Wars episode in 1977. I stood in line for 3 hours, on a first date with a boy that I had a serious crush on.

(In case CJ is around here, it was at the Cine Capri in Phoenix - what a great theater that was!)

I still love Star Wars stuff.

Oh, and I like Harley's too - I used to ride a bike... My heart just stops every time I hear one of those puppies... :devil:

I had one. I got rid of it back in October. I liked it and all, but found I was having a better time just being a Dad. I seldom ever rode it once my daughterwas born in August of 2000

First off, cool image. I really enjoy seeing people work out these kinds of things. Honest. Good job.

What a great photo! You did an outstanding job adding the light sabre. I would have least thought you just added the glow to an existing sabre, but was impressed to learn that you added the entire sabre. Way Cool!

I have a friend that would go nuts over that car.

I almost bought a Honda before I bought the Harley. What sold me on the Harley was the resale value. I rode mine for 4 years and sold it for what I paid for it. The guy that I sold it to brought cash with him. It was amazing he didn't even take it for a ride, just handed me an envelope.

That was one of the weirdest days in my life.

I would kill for that car now, but like so many stupid things we do when were young, I let it slip away, not knowing then that it was gone forever. As for my bike, a 650 Nighthawk, it's 2000 mi. away and I dont' know when I'll get it.

While were on the subject of Harleys and StarWars.. My 6 yr. old son Mike lives for Starwars. Since this new movie came out, we have made Lucas and Hasbro very rich (like they were'nt already)

Since Mike could not tame his anticipation for this movie a couple weeks before it came out, I thought I would do a little something for him. I will just post a link since it breaks a few copyright restrictions, but it is only used as wallpaper for his computer.

I can't see how Lucas would suffer copyright infringements since you arn't making money off it. I think it was so cool of you to do that for him. I bet the look in his face was priceless. :D You're a great Dad.

As for the bike, looks excellent but I'm glad I don't hear my windows rattling when it goes by.

There was a little game I would play in the parking garage at work. I would zig-zag through the aisles and see how many car alarms I could set off. My record was 11

Steve, nice work. Though I'd like to notice that you've omitted to shade the handle at the parts that close touch your hand. Now it looks like the handle is in your hand, but it doesn't touch your hand. Said a lil bit perplexed, but study this part in detail.

As far as I remember this not-shaded effect is created at a disco's light floor or said in general when one of the two touching objects is a source of the light.

What directory do you load actions into?

In photoshop, you can actually place actions in any directory you want. When you go to load the action, just browse to that location. Typically they are located in the Adobe Goodies folder under actions.

To load an action set, go to the Actions palette, then click the small arrow in the top right corner and navigate to the location where you saved the action. Select the file you'd like to load and it will be added to the actions palette.
