Some of you might remember my post about Buck, the 120 lb. dog, who was deathly afraid of Junior, a small kitten. Well, it turns out that Junior should have been named Junior-ess! Yup, she had 3 kittens. Now Buck really has to watch his step!

I haven't even seen them yet. They're getting ready to move, and they are in and out of the house. They'll be moving about 150 miles south to the Indianapolis area, so if I can't get a pic soon, I could very easily be shooting the grandkittens the next time I get a chance. :)

Come on Ron. You don't expect me to remember that do you? :D Oh yeah... at my age I'm not supposed to remember yesterday...that's it. But , 40+ years ago should be no problem. :) I think the colors you came up with were probably right. Can't wait to see it. Thanks.

This was at the county fairgrounds. No theatre, but it could have been just about anything else. Really don't remember.

The night before last, Junior became ill. Jean took her to the vet, and they determined that she had probably been bittem by a tick, and had a rare neurological disease. She had to be put to sleep. One of the kittens died shortly after birth, and that left two to take care of. Buck, the big dog, has been filling in as mother as much as possible by cleaning them up, and generally watching over them. They need to be fed with a syringe about every 3 hours. Here's a couple of pics for you.

well that is too bad Ed... but then ... sounds like you are headed down a whole new channel with these new two... and will know them and their ways from birth... they look healthy RonDon

Yeah, they look healthy. The doc said if the mother passed on the disease, the kittens should be dead with a week. Jean really gets shook up when an animal dies. When she was a kid, she would walk a few blocks to school, and if it had been raining, she would pick the worms up off the sidewalk so the other kids wouldn't step on them. So I hope her kittens are okay, for her sake.

Ed, sorry to hear about Junior. Ticks are a real problem. We always keep checking Helga. The kittens are really cute.

Bob,

Helga is a real good looker. Is it a show dog? I love Shephards. We have one that's a mix with Yellow Lab. He looks just like a Shephard except for the color. The avatar looks great too. :)

Ed, So sorry to hear about Junior. I'm with your wife - I'm a wreck when an animal is injured or dies. Did the vet think that the tick bite caused the neurological disorder? Yikes!

I sure hope those kittens are OK - the are SOOOO cute! :D

No, Helga's not a show dog. But she thinks she is. Her father is German and mother is a US citizen. Great family lines but just one of the family to us. She has started agility school and seems to like it.

The picture is dated. She is now a year old and 86#'s. Can you post a pic of your dog? Love to see it.

Jeanie,

I should have been more clear. Jean is my daughter. I'm just "Grandpa" to the kittens. :D The vet said it was very hard to diagnose the exact cause or problem, but that was his best guess. But the cat was very bad, and would not make it.

Bob,

Our grand daughter brought him home when he was about 2 months old. He was a stray that had been hit by a car. He wasn't really hurt very much, just shaken. It seems that there is some kind of odd stuff going on. Any time an animal needs help, they wind up at our house or with one one of my kids. It's like they somehow know that if they get into trouble, they should come here for help! Anyhow, here's the pic.

Boy, he really does look like a Shepard. Very pretty color! Sounds like he has a great home.

One quick story. My son's future bride is going to vet school at U of MN. First time she met Helga, she (meaning Helga) was in her puppy jumping stage. Corrie is a very slight girl and Helga was about 70#'s and wanted to play. Corrie was sitting on the floor and put a move on Helga that the WWF would have been impressed by. Helga was flat on her back in Corries lap with the strangest look on her face like "what the h--- was that?" Now they have a mutual respect for each other. When ever Corrie visits Helga lays by her.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about Junior! That makes me sad.

I lost my wonderful cat, Shadow in January to a freak accident. We had switched rooms for the office and the bedroom and I think the furniture didn't have time to settle into the carpet. I had a habit of leaving the dresser drawers open and Shadow liked to sleep in them. We went to the movies one night and she must have jumped in a drawer when there was more than one open and because the dresser hadn't settled, it was off balance and the whole thing fell on top of her. When we got home we found her dead. I had her for 9 years since she was a tiny kitten. It was awful, it really broke my heart... I love animals!:bawling:

That's really sad about your cat chiquitita. I worry constantly about my cat getting into things and hurting himself.

That's too bad about Shadow. That must have been quite a shock to find something like that.

Yes it was very traumatic. I still have trouble with it now and then it sneaks up on me. Such a strange thing to have happen when I feel I take good care of my animals compared to many people I know. I mean, I kept her inside so she wouldn't get hit by a car and she got killed by my dresser. It is rediculous.

chiqitita.. that's a bummer about your cat. Even if we take really really good care of them accidents happen. .

Ed - I want one of those kittens!!

It can happen even in the country.... my Dog was out when I working on my fuel pump..... I went in for a minute and came out and spot was drinking the gas I had removed to a pan...
suddenly he took off running in circles.... for a few minutes ... then he flopped over :(

I had a neighbor who had a dog, and the same thing happened when he was cleaning parts in gas. I wonder what's in gasoline that attracts them. :(

Dogs will drink gasoline, anti-freeze, oil, etc... this is why I own a cat.. A much smarter animal! :D

Well, let's just say that's debateable! (It just doesn't look right...a spelling checker would come in handy about now.) :)
