I don't use Photoshop 7, but I read on a newsgroup today that there's an Easter Egg if you hold the 'ALT' key and click on 'Pallete Option' under Layers...

This is the same old egg though - it has been available for a few versions if I remember correctly. I got 'excited' thinking there was a new one.

Various sized/coloured Merlin's are shown on the colour palette when you go to the regular layers palette options command.

When you add the opt/alt command, you just get a little Merlin in a box with a 'begone' ok button - cute stuff.

There have been many easter eggs over the years in Photoshop and other software, which are amusing the first time you stumble over them or they are shown to you.

Doing a search for Photoshop Easter Eggs or hunting in the software might also be a good way to provide an excuse not to get any serious work done. [g] Seriously though, I have learned some amazing things by simply holding down the opt/alt key or whatever when using a command that does not normally require this key being used...key modifiers are great, once you know what they are doing!

Thanks Stephen! I never knew there were Easter Eggs in Photoshop. I really have never thought much about E-eggs anyway, and have never actually found or seen one before. But I did check after you posted this, and whaddya know - I got a Merlin too... :D

Paint Shop Pro has had some too. They could be found by searching Google groups.
I saw something a few yrs ago that the engineers had put a microscopic comment about Bill Gates on a chip. I think there are many such things on soft/hardware all over the place. Now I'm going to follow the URL and waste some time.

I had to see the Paint Shop Pro egg because it has a photo of the design team. Here is a how to. PSP7.
Purchased Version of Paint Shop Pro 7
Easter Egg:
1. Open Paint Shop Pro.
2. Click File>>New.
3. Specify a Width of 1022 and a Height of 817 and click OK.
4. Now choose Image>>Picture Frame.
5. Inside Picture Frame choose Antique Marble and choose Next.
6. Choose Frame Inside of Image and click Finish
7. Now choose the Eraser tool.
8. Go to the Tool Options and increase the brush size (this is to make it faster).
9. Right click and drag over image (scribble) to see the development team.

If it doesn't appear, yu can bring it out with Blade Pro, which for some reason unknown to man, can see images that are no longer there.

I saw a picture of Kai in one of his programs once... Dunno what I did to get that... It was strange.

Rather than an actual easter egg (or digital signature) I always put an 'easter egg' in my artwork.

Meaning, somehwere in the artwork there will be a small image, sign, whatever hidden in such a way that only I know how to find it/where to find it, and what it is...

Might be you have to zoom to 1600% to find it, or apply a special combination of filters..or both..but it's there..hehehe

Sort of a 'copy protection' should there every be any need to contest my rights as an author. Happened before and this little 'gimmick' settled the case real quick.

that's a really smart idea!! there's tons of different copyright protection things out there, but almost all can be cracked somehow. something personalized like that is pretty much undisputible.

This would make a GREAT challenge/egg hunt! It would also help you improve your method, as you learn how truly devious we all are. [g]

Hmm challenge indeed...the average output size of the file on the CD that goes to the customer is generally no less than 65MB (30x40CM CMYK). Often more if the artwork is asked to be kept in layers or higer resolution is needed. Also, I vary place and type of the 'tag', just in case...and it may not even be 'visible' in normal view...The problemn is, to actually test your cunningness and deviousness I'd have to post a full-sized file..It just wouldn't work on smaller files...care to download 64MB on dial-up anyone?:tongue:

For those who actually believe Intel engineers etched a special message to Billg on the chip, "Plu-eeze!"

Like him or not, Billg's little empire put (and still puts) lots-n-lots-n-lots of $$ into the pockets of a lotta Intel folks. Methinks Intelites would be praising Mr. Bill, not burying him. :)

Now if the claim was a few chipmakers at Motorola engaged in a little tomfoolery, that might be a little more plausible.

Regardless, it's a sloppy job of photo maniupulation. Cute, but sloppy.
