I was a-scared for a minute there. I drive through there fairly often, and I was born in KY, but the REAL question is: how do you pronounce it? DannyRaphael 06-30-2002, 12:48 AM Did you hear about the elderly gentleman who was in the hospital for a couple days for some prostrate surgery... and his doctor happened to stop by one morning just after breakfast. "...And how's the food around here, Mr. Jones?" the doctor asked, trying to make a little conversation. "Just had the WORST piece of toast I've ever ate. I put some of that Kentucky Jelly on it and it was awful!" "Oh really? I'm sorry to hear that," sympathized the doctor, "but I've never heard of Kentucky Jelly before..." "Well, there it is, ya darn fool, right next to my breakfast tray... Can't you read the label? It says 'KY Jelly'!" (OK... you can stop groaning now!) Ed_L 06-30-2002, 10:48 AM If you still don't know the correct spelling, check back this afternoon. The correct spelling will be posted. :) Ed Ed_L 06-30-2002, 04:01 PM Okay, here it is! 63.64% of you said the proper spelling for the capital of Kentucky was "Louisville". 36.36% of you said it was "none of the above". Conclusion: Most of you don't (didn't) know how to spell the capital of Kentucky, which of course is Frankfort! :D Thanks for playing. Ed DJ Dubovsky 06-30-2002, 06:28 PM Yep, fell right into that one. :D DJ Sanda 06-30-2002, 06:35 PM That was a good one. I'm using the excuse that I'm an Australian.:D But what's everybody else's excuse? :lmao: Blacknight 06-30-2002, 11:07 PM I looked it up. It was never stated that we couldn't. I don't know all the state capitals. Not sure I even know all the states. But I have a computer, and the Internet, and I can find out in seconds. Viva Technology! :wavey: G. Couch 06-30-2002, 11:27 PM Does beer qualify as an excuse? I think I zoomed right past the word "capital" and just thought..."everyone knows how to spell Louisville"! The next day (after a cup of coffee) I realized my error. Give us another Ed! ...my ego is bruised :bawling: d_kendal 07-02-2002, 08:05 PM :D I did almost the same thing as Greg, I didn't read the question carefully! I'm blaming this one on lack of sleep. - David :) Ed_L 07-02-2002, 08:09 PM SURE! We'll believe anything you guys want to tell us. :D Ed d_kendal 07-02-2002, 08:17 PM :D BigAl 07-03-2002, 11:53 AM isn't Kentucky something to do with chickens? didn't know chickens had a capital... ravenmd 07-04-2002, 03:00 PM ah yesss... PFK ... Poulet Frit Kentucky as we call it here.. (from another thread) I too fell right into that one Ed. My excuse is I know all the states, can find them on an unmarked map, and know "most" of the capitols I think that's pretty good considering I'm not a citizen. besides.. Ed tricked us.. not fair! DJ Dubovsky 07-04-2002, 06:27 PM Not so bad tricking Canadians on American geography but he tricked us Americans too. You got to watch that Ed. He's a sly one. :D DJ Ed_L 07-04-2002, 07:17 PM I was surprised so many got it wrong. That's been around for a l-o-o-o-o-o-ng time. Ed chris h 07-05-2002, 03:21 AM Can I enter here to a fanfare of trumpets and claim to have got the right answer. However with the codicil that I thought there was a catch in the spelling ! Frankfort ? Who ! Swampy 07-17-2005, 04:45 PM A no brainer for me. I spent 6 years of my life at Ft. Knox. LOL Kraellin 07-17-2005, 07:31 PM now dee dee, what were you doing at ft. knox, other than flirting with the g.i's? i did my basic training and my armored personnel carrier training there....back in...let's see....'69/'70 ? Craig Swampy 07-18-2005, 07:37 AM Craig... Camp following as an Army Wife. First "tour" was ex's basic Armor school in the fall of '63 I was in the commissary when they announced that Kennedy had been shot. By the time I past the gold deposit on my way home, they had already rolled a tank up in front of it facing the street fully armed and ready for anything! Second "tour" was ex's advanced Armor school.. '68-69. This was an adventure. Our son was born at Hunter Army Air Field on August 10, 1968. Born on a Thursday, home from the hospital on Saturday, Christened on Sunday, packers in the house Monday, moving van departs Tuesday and we arrived at Ft. Knox the following Friday. Geez.. baby is less than a week old and we're doing a PCS?? Third "tour" was 1971-'74, when my ex was teaching at the Armor School. Experienced my first tornado AND earthquake ON THE SAME DAY!. Ahhh Ft. Knox, I remember it well. Kraellin 07-18-2005, 12:48 PM ah, an army wife. you have my sympathies ;) interesting, isnt it, that everyone that was alive at that time remembers exactly where they were when they heard the news that kennedy was shot. i was in the hallway of my junior high school at the time. i shld know what a 'PCS' is, but i dont. fill me in? tornado and an earthquake on the same day? cute. and welcome to kentucky :) Craig Swampy 07-18-2005, 02:13 PM PCS=Permanent Change of Station as opposed to TDY=Temporary Duty The tornado/earthquake combo was really scarry. Made you feel like the world was coming to an end. Funny story... The tornado occured about 4:30-5:00, April 2, 1972. It blew Brandenburg, Ky and Zenia, Ohio off the map. Ft. Knox was busy flying medi-vacs to Brandenburg even as the tornado was crossing Louisville. At 6:00 we were watching the local news about the tornado when the earth started moving. The sky was greenish yellow.. Really eerie. Then on the 6:00 o'clock news, the film was so fresh they hadn't had time to edit it so it was like watching home movies as far as the narration. They were interviewing some redneck.. TV GUY...Where were you when the tornado came through? REDNECK.. I was backin up that there Chevy. TV GUY... What did you see? REDNECK... I looked up and saw trees and boards and all kinds of sh*t up in that cloud. Needless to say, they had edited the film clip by the 11:00 o'clock news, but it was really funny. Kraellin 07-18-2005, 03:28 PM PCS, ah, ok :) re tornado/earthquake, nothing like mother nature to make one feel vulnerable at times. i recall the first earthquake i was in. it was in L.A. ok, that's NOT supposed to happen! the ground is NOT supposed to move! really throws out your stable data about things. and tornados, we had one come through here not long ago, about 11 p.m. or so. i'm watching t.v. for weather reports and such and suddenly hear this freight train outside. yup, it's true... sounds like a freight train; a LARGE freight train! it hit about a half mile down the road in town. LARGE trees pulled straight up out of the ground. took a farmer's grain bin and pulled all the metal off the thing and left ALL of the grain. when they picked up the grain after the storm, the farmer figured he'd lost about a bushel of corn. the bin itself was never found. another one came through a few years earlier. it came right up the river bank but didnt quite touch down all the way. it rode the tree tops and mowed them all off at the top like a lawn mower. strange things, tornados. hehe, like your redneck story :) Craig Nanls 09-22-2005, 12:58 PM EEEEEWWWWW Danny, lol Legacy~Art 12-31-2005, 05:50 AM I got it right too, but i did google as i have no idea capitals of anywhere in the usa. pepperphoto 03-02-2006, 04:41 PM K I think? :dizzy: rmizell 02-20-2007, 01:48 PM frankfort. This used to be a good joke for the elementary school state fair... yelhsaneerg 02-20-2007, 04:23 PM i can't believe i walked right into that one....i know the capitol but my mind was focusing only on spelling lol |
