I was planning on doing something like this for a Challenge, but I thought it might be too hard, and have limited appeal. So I'll post it here just for any interested party to have fun with.

And it should be a good practice piece for selection and arrangement skills.

That looks like a good learning tool. But I wonder if people really have that much time to play. :) One thing's for sure. When they get done with it, they'll be comfortable doing a few things.

Well I'm going to give it a shot. I don't say I'll have it done soon, but it wil give me something to focus on when my brain is full of work stuff. I'll just let myself get lost in the puzzle. So don't think too few replies means no one is working on this.

Ok ... well Trimoon .. did you mean you altered the piece or that you got it... this is what I ended up with

I must say I liked doing this puzzle.. would be a good challenge I think.

Danny in case Trimoon doesn't get right back to you... the method I used was to
make a duplicate layer... delete the original layer
next the magic wand... set at about 30.. clicking on the background.
then ctrl-X to delete background...
then the joy of lassoing each piece followed by copy paste.. and always follow with a click on the layer pallet to reselect the correct layer..
you'll end up with 40+ layers when finished hide the original layer (or delete it) ...
set your move tool to "auto select layer"
and you're off...
I used the transform tool to rotate them.. only because I forgot the other way to do it.
hope that helped... there may be other ways...
using the grid helps...

Now that it's been posted in assembled state, let me say that the image is by Keith Weller.

Since that one seems too easy, lets try another (but keep trying on that first one).

Not as hard as I thought. But made a few mistakes, the biggest one being merging some layers too soon.
To start I cut all the white background out leaving just the pieces on the grid. Then I selected all the edges, then the rest. As I selected I cut the piece then copied to a new document. When I had the outside done I merged the layers, leading to the above mistake. Well I'll do better next time. Used the lasso tool for the selections, with no background in the way only the piece was selected.

Forgot to add the one thing I miss about doing this computer puzzle... I couldn't use my hammer!!! There's nothing like making those darn pieces fit! ;)

I think you did just fine... mine was no better.. but a trick.... put a black layer under them when finished .. SHHhh !!!!

I'm attempting cutlery, but I'm stumped. Either my eyes are worse that I thought or there's something wrong with most of these pieces. Is part of the challenge that they are very irregular and jagged or are they messed up?
