I've been tearing my hair out I just can't get my scanner to work in XP. it's an Epson 1650 Photo. I've got the new drivers for it, uninstalled everything and reinstalled about 6 times but still no joy. XP can't find it as a new piece of hardware when I boot up and it's not on the Device manager list so there's no confilict, it's just as if it was a ghost and not really there. Sorry if that is unclear but I'm getting quite stressed about it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sanda,
I can't say why this is happening to you but I will at least say that I have the exact same scanner and XP too and all works great. I know you don't need to hear that about now but I just wanted to let you know that they do work together. Now maybe someone with more knowledge of the whys and why nots can help you puzzle out what's happening with yours.

Which interface is it using, and have you tried reinstalling the interface drivers? (USB, etc.)
Also, I've heard of instances where a non-admin user in XP had similar problems (if you're the only user, you're probably set up for admin access).

This is the driver you downloaded off the Epson site?
Twain driver v5.54A
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
epson10235.exe - 3.2 MB - posted on 2/20/2002
This self-extracting file contains the Perfection 1650/1650 Photo driver v5.54A.
Important: Scanner must be disconnected from computer while installing.

Hate to ask the obvious, but it was disconnected while installing the driver, right?
I'm completely fishing here since this is definitely not my area of expertise. I have none of those anyway! (LOL)

Sanda, Assuming it's USB, do you have it hooked up through a USB hub? Sometimes that can cause problems. Like Doug said, you might want to see if there are updated drivers for the proper interface (e.g., USB) - in addition to the scanner. Have you tried a different (USB) cable to make sure you don't have a bad cable?

Yeah!! Glad you figured it out! :)
I know how frustrating it is when you think you've tried everything and things still won't work! I'm just praying I don't find myself in the same position in a few days when I start putting my new computer together!
