Hi
Wonder if anyone can help me out with this. I've been putting photos on CD's and want to add a music track.Between the software that I'm using and the dvd player which I intend to use to show it on my regular TV, my best bet seems to be an mp3 format.

How can I take a audio CD that I have ( which I think is in a wav format-not sure though) and convert a particular song into a mp3 file so that I can import it into the slide show. All I know about audio CD's is that when I insert one in a drive it plays music.

Anyway, I went online to do a search for conversion software or even to download an mp3 file and what a disaster! Some of those music sites were really pretty bad and it took me quite a while to clean up my computer.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Paulette

I tried to figure out how to download mp3s from several sites, don't know where they went on my computer, somewhere, but I could never figure it out.
I have a neat little program that you can put photos into to show and you can add mp3s to it but it never worked for me.
Good luck, let us no if you are successful.

Platcsha,
They were probably dl'd into the programs own default directory. Go to the folder in windows explorer and you might find a separate folder with your music in it.

Another way to find your mp3's (or anything on your computer) is to go to start>find files (search or whatever your operating system)and type in mp3 and hit enter - you'll end up with a list of all the mp3's on your computer and their locations.

I've been researching a few slide show programs and the one I'm
trying now is one called tvcd( I have a free trial download). The important thing for me is that the CD's I create will be viewable on a dvd hooked up to a regular TV. There are a few new programs out there which seem to offer what I want so it's really just coming up with one that gives me the least problem.

.....on to search for music files on my hard drive- thanks MIG-never thought of that

Paulette, just be aware that the resolution on a TV is much lower than a monitor, so your pics may not look too wonderful on the TV. A better bet would be to use a data projector connected to a laptop.

While researching, you should also check whether whatever you're putting onto the CD can be played in a standalone DVD player. My feeling is that you'd probably have to make a DVD movie for your idea to work.

you might not have to actually, I've tried burning videos in Mpeg format on Cd-R and my brother was able to play it in his friends DVD player. (but the video has to be in .MPG since .AVI files will not work that way)

David, you're right that mpegs (can't remember whether it's 1 or 2) will play, but the point I was trying to make is that the DVD player won't be able to play a Powerpoint presentation (or anything along those lines). So to view the pics they'd have to be turned into something that the DVD player will understand.

oops, wasn't thinking and kinda missed the point of the thread there.. but yes, you're right for something like that, DVD would most likely be best (since on DVD's you can have chapters, and then you can just flip forwards and backwards through the photos with the DVD remote control or player controls)

Starting to have second thoughts about this project. What I wanted to do is be able to send CD's containing family pictures to some elderly aunts who do not have computers but who have Dvd
players. I thought it would make a nice Christmas gift for them.

Anyway, the more I'm looking into this the more I'm realizing is that this is going to be a entirely new learning experience re the world of dvd compatibility and video CD burning. Seems like it's even important re what brand of CD you choose as to whether or not it will work.

Will resume this project after the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanks to all for your help !

The project might be on hold, but thanks for bringing it up. I've been following the thread with interest.

Brought this one back to life because of a mail to the Advanced-CDR list:
I have been putting family photos on VCD to run through my TV via an inexpensive DVD with great results (better than the look on the computer screen, without program enhancement.
Sounds to me exactly what Paulette was wanting to do...

Check if your CD-burning software can create a VCD and try it. I'll keep the email and query the sender if anyone wants further info.

Nero cd burner will check out a VCD or a SVCD for you - If you are adding sound it will need to be 44100Hz. 48000Hz will work in some dvd players but is not supported by all of them.

Audio grabber is a good program for gaining audio off a cd in digital format - this means you will not have to check you input levels and normalise the recording after you have captured it.

Shout if you need more info - I have created a few projects of this type - they are long winded and a learning curve but well worth the trouble

Hope this helps

Hi

Thanks for reviving the thread.

My burner is supposed to burn vcd's although I have not yet tried doing so. I know my dvd player plays vcd's because I can play a kodak picture disk on it.l have put the slide project on hold until I locate a slide program which does what I want.

I put together a slide show with audio using Power Point but it's not easily transferable. Bought a basic audio conversation program called MP3 Maker( Magix) which has helped me convert music files to the formats I needed. Also hooked up a mic so that I can narrate each slide.Seem to have the audio part under control now.

Any additional information along this line would be welcomed.

Pictures to TV has a nice program that works well for most DVD players -- this writes CD to DVD
http://www.picturetotv.com/photodvd.htm?a=8765
bad news is the image quality can not compaire to your computer. Also a large show will take some time to format. Out of all the products I tried that claimed to write cd's to dvd format this one seemed to work the best --- priced around 40.00

Slide show for the computer my favorite is ProShow (I have ProShow Gold) also claims to write CD to DVD --- not very good, but I love it for my computer slide shows.

convert your audio files two good programs Cool Edit and Blaze Audio have both done me good.

I'm glad you guys kept this thread going. One of the projects I've been toying with is making slide shows for the family reunion we're having this summer. I use a Mac, so most of the apps you all have been discussion won't work for me, but someone mentioned "VCD" and that got me thinking.

I did a google for vcd mac and sure enough, it turned up Roxio Toast 5 - as luck would have it, I bought RT5 when I got my laptop - I was going to do lots of wonderful stuff, but to date I haven't even loaded the program

My slide show project has been on hold for a while, now I can revive it again.

Take care, Margaret

Hi
The quest continues. Someone told me that Ulead has slide show software that appears to do what I want. Anyway the website offers trial downloads but the download time was so large I decided that I'd just look for it in the store. It's not very expensive( about $50) so I'll most likely give it a try.

Just a thought, have you looked at the software included with scanners and printers etc.?? I know I had several copies of Ulead that came with scanners etc. - I don't know if it was the full package but they're sadly out of date in any case.

You could probably get a scanner for$59 and if it has Ulead in the box, you're ahead of the game.

Take care, Margaret

I have the full version of the Ulead software you are talking about. It's called DVD Picture Show and it works great , especially their new version 2. It will create a VCD from your photo's, with music in the background and even transitions between photos.
Most DVD players will also play VCD's.

Ken

Yes that's the software that had been referred to.I'm going to give it a try-looks like the best bet! By the way, I never heard of or used Ulead software. Is it pretty reliable as far as you know?

Margaret-thanks for that tip. Will consider it when I buy a new scanner and/or printer. Just got a new digital camera -a CanonS45- to play with. Really happy with it. It was one of the techs at Canon thaty I spoke with who mentioned that he was trying out the Ulead software.

Hi

Finally making some progress with my slide show project. Here is what I am doing right now. I am using Movie Maker2 which is a free download from Microsoft and because I have Digital Media Edition Plus( I got it when I got my new Dell) I have some extra effects. I really like the fade in and fade out which give the so-called " Ken Burns" effect. I use photoshop to make up any graphics and/or text images that I want to incorporate. Also, I've made a collection of particular songs from my CD's which I then save to my hard drive to use in my shows. I don't download any music from the internet. To me it's not worth the aggravation of dealing with some of the music sites.

After I make up my show, I use the Save Movie Wizard and when I get the window which says " Movie Setting" I highlight the button which says " Other settings" and save it as a AVI file. This step is important if you want to burn it for use in a DVD with your TV because Movie Maker 2 by default will save it as a WMV file which is only viewable on a computer which has Windows Media player installed.

To burn the slide show, I use MySonic4.5 which came with my computer. I have made both VCD's and DVD's but the VCD's can be problematic because some DVD players can't read them. I have an inexpensive Apex DVD player which plays them just fine but a friend has a much more expensive Sony player and hers can't. I may get the new upgrade of My Sonic but I'm holding off because some of the forums are reporting bugs. I got Nero 6 a little time back for that purpose and I had so many conflicts with it that I removed it.

Anyway, If anyone is interested in going this route I'd recommend looking into a book Called Windows Movie Maker 2 Zero to Hero. It really taught me everything I needed to know. There are also a few websites with forums dealing with MM2 which are helpful.

This is working well for me right now but I'm always open to new ideas!

I created my movie in Windows MovieMaker2 and saved it.
It saved fine, I viewed in Windows Media player - everything looked and sounded great. Images were sharp, music was lined up correctly.

I burned the movie onto a CD and can play it on my computer in Windows Media Player fine.

I tried to burn it to DVD using Sonic MyDVD and it did burn, however the music is no longer matched up with the images as it was when I created it.

**I will try saving it as an AVI as suggested.

I tried exporting the movie to my Sony Digital Video Camera and it doesn't export onto the camera.

**HOW can I do this. I'm not sure why it's not working.

This is an end of the year season highlight slide show which needs to be presented in two days.

Your help is MOST appreciated!
