View Full Version : Painter - Cloners T Paul 01-30-2003, 02:16 PM I've noticed that there are a few people on the board that are playing with Painter. I have Painter 7.0 and I have been checking out the cloner tools. So far the pencil cloner doesn't seem to work. I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem, or if you have to do anything different to get the pencil cloner to work?
~T retpmikl 01-30-2003, 03:34 PM Just tried it and it works ok for me. What exactly doesn't work ? T Paul 01-30-2003, 03:53 PM I open my image, clone it, delete the clone image and activate the tracing paper. Okay so far so good. I select my cloners, but nothing happens when I use the pencil cloner. I draw and nothing happens on the image. I tried adjusting the levels such as opacity and brush size, but still nothing. All the other cloners appear to work fine. d_kendal 01-30-2003, 04:27 PM Hi T,
I had what I think is the same problem when I was trying to figure out how to use the cloners. things to check:
Make sure the image you're trying to clone from is actually open (and yes I have actually forgotten to leave the clone source open then wondered what happened :dizzy: )
check that in the color pallete the checkmark is selected for "clone color" otherwise it won't work
I am using painter classic, but for something like that I'd assume it's the same.

I just did exactly what you did and here are my settings:
- in Art Materials, Colors, Clone Color checked
- in Brush Controls, General, Method : cloning
- in Brush Controls, Cloning : Clone Color checked and Clone Type normal.
But first, I think you should (if you didn't) Restore default variant and work from there.
Hope this helps. T Paul 01-30-2003, 05:43 PM I had everything set up they way you said, but still no luck. However, I noticed that under the CLONING menu that the "obey source selection" was selected. When I unselected it then the pencil cloner worked. It also worked when I selected "copy source selection".
THANKS retpmikl 01-30-2003, 05:54 PM Glad you found the problem 'source'. There's enough to learn without having to search for a frustrating wrong setting 'somewhere'.
I'll go try me new Intuos 4x5 that I received today. T Paul 01-30-2003, 06:17 PM That should be a lot of fun. I was really impressed with how much more control a tablet gives you. I thought I was always pretty good with my mouse, but boy does a table pen make life a lot easier!
~T retpmikl 01-30-2003, 07:01 PM After just a few minutes, I'd say I'm gonna love it. Impatient to try it more on the week-end. Larry 01-31-2003, 07:34 AM Hi guys,
Just started using the Intuos 2 myself recently. This might be old news to you, but here's a little tip I picked up recently: Put a regular piece of paper over the plastic cover on the tablet. Makes it less "slick" and gives more of a feeling of actual drawing implement.

Larry, I tried that and then took it off as it loses some of the pressure sensitivity response I think. Larry 01-31-2003, 12:03 PM That's good to know, Jaz. I'm not proficient enough at it yet to know that. Do you think it takes enough sensitivity away to make a difference in a drawing? Originally posted by Larry

I do, yes. I noticed that I had a harder time controlling the thickness of lines in Painter with the paper on but it may have been my imagination too! LOL Schwartzie 01-31-2003, 09:28 PM Everytime you use Painter you should first go to the preferences and set the tablet sensitivity. Originally posted by Schwartzie
