I just asked my wife if there were more "brother" or "sister" acts in pop music. Surprisingly, I could only think of a few brother or sister acts in pop music. How many can you think of?

Debbie Doug Nelson 02-19-2003, 09:54 AM Heart Ed_L 02-19-2003, 09:21 PM Geez! A bunch of kids on here! :D I was thinking more on the lines of the Fontaine sisters, the McGuire sisters, the Ames brothers, the Andrew sisters, the Mills brothers.....you know, the ones I remember just before time began! :) Ed Doug Nelson 02-19-2003, 10:30 PM Ah, ok, then don't forget the Bach brothers. Ed_L 02-20-2003, 04:33 AM C'mon Doug. That was *before* pre-time! :D Ed dcarr 02-20-2003, 06:21 AM Missed my post Ed? I even through in the Kings. :) Debbie Ed_L 02-20-2003, 06:35 AM That name rings a bell Debbie, but I can't remember anything they had. Ed dcarr 02-20-2003, 07:51 AM I guess you would consider them the generic brand, along with the Lennon Sister. I will correct myself however, they were the King Family. Old Lawrence Welk staples. Debbie. Ed_L 02-20-2003, 09:30 AM I never cared much for Lawrence Welk, so I didn't watch him. But the King family does sound familiar. Ed Jenny Wood 02-21-2003, 05:59 AM Ed, Even though I was just a kid then--I remember watching Lawrence Welk--I had a crush on the clarinet player in the orchestra who always did solos. Ya. I know--I was a geeky kid. HAHAHA. :) What about the Pointer Sisters? Jenny :) Ed_L 02-21-2003, 06:53 AM Hmmmm, I wonder if that might have been a very young Pete Fountain? Ed Jenny Wood 02-21-2003, 07:58 PM Ed, I just went and did a net search to see if there were some younger pics of Fountain--and came across the actual clarinet player I was thinking of: Henry Cuestra! I also saw some other people from that Welk show like Tom Netherton and Anacani. I was also recalling the Hee Haw program: Grandpa Jones (What's for Supper?), Buck Owens, Roy What's His Name. Around 1979 my Dad bought a cassette tape of the Grand Ol' Opry (1926-1974)...and I took to that music in a big way. I still enjoy listening to Lonzo & Oscar's "I'm My Own Grandpa" and The Carter Family's "I'm Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes" and Kitty Wells "How Far Is Heaven"....I have to get this on CD before the cassette is truly worn out! Cheers, Jenny :) Ed_L 02-22-2003, 04:37 AM I think that would be Roy Clark, a guy who could play just about anything. "I'm my own grandpa"? There aren't many of us who remember that one. :D Ed Jenny Wood 02-22-2003, 06:21 AM Ed, Well..I had a great time this evening (took at break from Photoshopping) and listened to music clips for various genres at the Amazon.com site. It doesn't look like I can get the exact Grand Ole Opry album (or cassette) on CD--but there are some other Grand Opry collections. How about Johnnie & Jack's "Ashes of Love" and Minnie Pearl's "Jealous Hearted Me"--she could sure play the piano!!! I love all music except extreme punk and acid rock. You should have seen my 11 year old daughter roll her eyes upwards this evening when I played all of Donny and Marie's music clips--plus Shaun Cassidy's Do Run Run Rin song! :) She's amazed that some of the music she finds sorta acceptable debut around the time of her birth! ;-) My mainstay is Cecila Bartoli, Andrea Bocelli, The Braxton Brothers (smooth jazz), Boney James, Oleta Adams, Eva Cassidy, James Taylor...and of course my little bit of Grand Ole Opry! Hee-Haw! Cheers, Jenny :) |
