View Full Version : Art Tag Pieces #2 T Paul 02-18-2003, 10:03 PM Okay, now for round 2…
The process
I take an image/painting and divide it up into sections. Each player will get their own section to redo. You can apply filters, brush strokes, tints and so on, but just keep the basics of the image there. Once all the images are submitted to me I will put them back together to recreate the photo. It should be entertaining and I think a lot of fun.
If you are interested please send me a PM.
This round is scheduled to start 28 Feb.
~T T Paul 03-02-2003, 11:01 AM Another great round of Art Tag “Quilt”. Since everyone only got sections of the image, I am sure many did not know what they were working with. The image is of the Cecropia Moth from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service website (http://www.fws.gov/). Everyone did a great job, and please don’t be shy about discussing your steps/techniques!
Thanks for playing!
~T
Here was the starting image in its entirety. T Paul 03-02-2003, 11:03 AM And here is the final image! Great job !
~T themanda 03-02-2003, 11:23 AM This turned out wonderfully! I love them all, but I especially like tile #5.
Great work everybody! clare 03-02-2003, 02:29 PM Okay time to own up to which piece you had!
I had piece #4 (thats me and my mojo :) )
Again I had no idea what the image was.... love it :)
I liked the general shapes within my section, so tried to empasis them with find edges and glowing edges - with a few other layers and filters thrown in, sorry I can't remember every one I used.
I also love part #5 the watercolour technique really works with this one.
great job everyone :)
Clare ArtistColumbus 03-02-2003, 03:01 PM These are all really beautiful! Good work everyone.
So when is the next challenge? Blacknight 03-02-2003, 04:46 PM A LOT of detail is lost when the image is produced for the final "showing". I know it's because of file size restrictions, but still - that leaves us with limited options as to what can be accomplished, especially with the size of the portion we are given to work with. No solutions...just thought I'd whine. Piece #3 (mine) can hardly be distinguished as different from the original, and I had some neat textures going in the larger version. I guess we can learn to work magic in a small area, somehow. jrolinc 03-02-2003, 09:49 PM I couldn't resist...when all the "pieces" were first put up, I copied them all, but absolutely DID not look at any but mine until the Art Tag was done...
Anyhow, then I gave them all the same treatment as my #5 piece, (which was more of the Watercolor/Pen&Ink technique with some touchups, adjustment layers, etc).
Anyhow, I like the overall 8 pieces and how everyone does their part, but here is the complete pic with my interpretation.
I do look forward to more of these...it's been fun TwinbNJ 03-03-2003, 07:18 AM I had # 7 - Used radial blur for the BG then used several filters on the moth.
-- I really enjoyed playing and look forward to the next one ---- T Paul 03-03-2003, 09:58 AM Jennifer,
The next art tag will probably be in mid March (depending on my schedule). I usually put out a week’s advance notice in the Art Tag forum asking players to sign up.
Blacknight,
You are allowed to whine. You are also allowed to post your section to show off the textures as they were quite nice. The size limitation does make things a bit more challenging, but this was a challenge right ;) You will have to change the resolution to 72, but I don’t think you will lose too much detail (just don't resample).
All the techniques turned out great. I particularly like the water color and pen & ink on #5 and the soft wispiness of #1.
~T ArtistColumbus 03-03-2003, 10:05 AM Thanks T! I'm looking forward to joining the next one! :) jeaniesa 03-03-2003, 03:04 PM Cool! :bigthmb:
I had piece #1. I thought perhaps it was a picture of flowers, but there wasn't a lot to work with in my particular piece. I chose to make my piece look good in and of itself rather than try to keep it "true" to the image it was part of. Like BK, I like my larger version better. Unfortunately, the laptop I did it on is packed and ready to head to the airport, so I won't be able to post it (and what I did to achieve the effect) until tomorrow.
Jeanie T Paul 03-03-2003, 03:49 PM Here is a closeup of Blacknight's section so you can see the great texture he created... T Paul 03-03-2003, 03:51 PM And here is a close-up of Jeanie's work.... jrolinc 03-03-2003, 04:01 PM Wow...I really like the close-ups of both of those...
I like em...share techniques please!! The larger/detailed images sure do look great. TwinANJ 03-04-2003, 06:32 PM I had number 8 and had an idea of what it was. I did mine at Jill's house along with her (but we did not look at each others until it was completed). I had a great time. I used glowing edge and various other filters to change the colors and bring out the edges.
After seeing Blacknights close up from the original I have to agree he had a lot of great detail. Loved everyones submission. Can not wait for the next one!
Jean jeaniesa 03-04-2003, 11:31 PM Jeffrey,
I went back to look at my Photoshop file and found that I hadn't actually named my layers like I usually do. So, I'm guessing a bit as to the exact filters I used. But, here's what I remember.
1. Copied the bg layer and ran the Paint Engine Arctic filter. I moved the "radiate" slider down to somewhere around .48 (from 1.0) to get the wispy effect.
2. Copied the bg layer again and moved it above the Arctic layer. Ran something like the Wind filter, but I don't think it was that filter - just looked like it. You could use it though - in blast mode. changed the blending mode of this layer to Lighten, opacity 45%.
3. Copied the bg layer again and moved it to the top of the stack. I was worried that the image was getting a little too abstract, so ran the Glowing Edges filter and set the blending mode to Lighten, opacity 41%.
4. Merged all of the layers to a new layer.
5. Copied Glowing Edges layer to a new image. Changed the mode to grayscale. Adjusted levels to increase contrast. Saved as PSD file to use as texture.
6. Same as #5 with the Wind layer.
7. Applied the glowing edges texture at 100% size to the merged layer. Then applied the wind texture the same way. Reduced the opacity of the merged layer (with two textures) to 70%.
Hope this helps some. If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them, but I have to admit - I did this late at night while distracted with a bunch of other concerns, so I might not remember everything exactly. :(
Jeanie clare 03-05-2003, 02:13 AM Great use of the wind filter, the feather effect it has given to the edges are very much in keeping with the subject matter (You will know what I mean if you have ever seen a close up of a moth - these guys are seriously hairy :) ) This is even more fantastic seeing as you didn't know what the image was.... your psycic vibes must have been working the the background ;)
The texture on blacknights image is really good along with the colour saturation, nice one :)
Looking forward to the next round
Clare jeaniesa 03-05-2003, 09:07 AM Thanks for the kind words Clare. :)
