I'm posting this in the salon because my befuddled brain couldn't work out which category it belongs to.

Does anyone have a source for color pallettes that show groups of colors that go together - I'm told that some of my combinations are less elegant than I imagined them to be :bawling: :bawling:

A while back Tom C posted a link to the Color Schemer (www.colorschemer.com/online/) site. I just tried the website and it's "unavailable", but if you do a search in google for "Color Schemer" and click on the cached page it works just fine.

Thank you Jeanie and Chuck. I'm deep into making these photo galleries for the family reunion and I seemed to be stuck on the olive green monochrome kick. I'm drawn to the drab colors, I don't think I even see blue, pink is too weak and red is too loud...I realize that I'm color challenged so I thought I'd better get some help.

Don't feel bad Margaret...getting a good color scheme is much harder than it looks. I usually go through about 10 options every time I update one of my web pages! :D

If you want a subdued look but do not want it to look entirely monochrome, try an Analogous color scheme. With the olive green you could use a blue green and yellow green to spice things up a bit.

The online Color Schemer is also available at Boogie Jack's site (http://www.boogiejack.com/colormach2.html) without worrying about cached pages and so on.

Thanks Greg, I'll keep that in mind. Leah, I followed the link to color schemer at Boogie Jack's, but for some reason it doesn't work in Safari and in IE, it works, but the grid of color buttons doesn't have the colors there but the buttons work. :D :D

For anyone trying to do web develoment, just another browser glitch.

I usually just keep trying hundreds of colours until I find some I like. I tend to be a colour-glutton (lots and lots of bright colours) but that doesn't work for everything :D

Thanks for the Color Schemer link. Just this past weekend I spent way too much time with my color deficient son trying many combos of colors on a web page he is designing. I sent the link to him and can hardly wait to what he says about it. I know it will be of great help as he always worries that what looks good to him will look atrocious to others.

I have found this page to be very helpful for a variety of schemes. This has a color harmony, match and tint collection for everything from room paint to web safe.

This site (http://www.ficml.org/jemimap/style/color/wheel.html) doesn't actually tell you what colours look god together - it's more focused on web- and browser- safe colours. But it's soooooo pretty I had to mention it.

And this one (http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/tools/color-blend/) takes two starting colours as input and generates intermediate steps between them.

Also, a tip from another site - use the "Browse Colors" option at behr.com (http://www.behr.com/behrx/workbook/index.jsp) to generate good colour combinations - it's designed for paint, but no reason you can't do a screen grab and sample the colours at the end. And it's so user-friendly!

BTW, the Color Schemer (http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html) site (discussed at the beginning of this thread) is back up!
