| View Full Version : Work Space Poll T Paul 08-27-2001, 10:29 PM I am curious about peoples’ work areas. So let’s take a poll. Choose which personality would like to work in your work environment. chris h 09-02-2001, 04:32 PM The first three are unknown on this side of the 'pond' are they American politicians ? I'll go for Harry Potter he would feel at home in my 'dungeon' style garret. I'm not a fan of this literary 'upstart' so he'd be swinging gently by the ankles from a roof beam. Regards T Paul 09-07-2001, 11:26 AM Here is a brief description of the three unknowns.... Martha Stewart -American Domestic Goddess and Grand Hostess (crafts, cooking, gardening, weddings, catering, decorating and so on). This woman does it all and has everything neatly organized and probably color-coded too. Of course all the things she does, no average person would have the time so there are many spoofs on her. Martha Stewart Web Site (http://www.marthastewart.com/) Oscar the Grouch is a puppet from a children’s educational TV show (Sesame Street). He is a grumpy green puppy that lives in a trash can, and therefore is usually a little messy. Oscar The Grouch (http://www.sesameworkshop.org/sesamestreet/oscar) Calvin and Hobbes a great comic strip about a little boy and his stuff tiger. He is quite the handful and does some quite hilarious antics. The creator does a wonderful job capturing the nature of little children. Calvin and Hobbes (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/6261/cal_hob.html) Hope this helps. -T chris h 09-07-2001, 12:01 PM T, Thanks for the comprehensive description of these characters, with hind sight they appear to have the traits of some British politicians ! Cheers…… DJ Dubovsky 09-07-2001, 12:55 PM I chose Oscar because try as I might to keep the office clean, between my work and my husbands, it always winds up looking like the bottom of a waste basket. It's got that clutter decor feel to it. :) DJ jeaniesa 09-07-2001, 09:24 PM Well, I have to say Oscar too. As much as I try to keep my desk clear of clutter, that usually only happens about once a month - during which time as the desk becomes too cluttered, I start creating (sorted) piles on the floor. Sigh... (Is there a sighing smilie?) -Jeanie thomasgeorge 09-07-2001, 09:28 PM Martha Stewart---because she must be Donna Reed's evil twin, you know, sort of a female Eddie Haskel, and that inspires me to keep alert and watchful. Tom DJ Dubovsky 09-07-2001, 09:32 PM Tom did you forget to vote at the top? Martha has 0 votes. I have to admit, that is the first time I ever heard Martha compared to Eddie Haskel. :) DJ thomasgeorge 09-07-2001, 09:39 PM Dj, I couldnt find a place to vote, Is the poll board locked? Beware the perfect home maker!! Who knows what is planted Beneath the roses in the garden!! Tom Ed_L 09-07-2001, 09:50 PM Oscar would certainly be at home in my place. It was because of me that "unorganized" became a word. :D Ed Chris W. 09-08-2001, 06:35 AM I'd have to say a brain surgeon as it would be nice to have some help..LOL. DJ Dubovsky 09-08-2001, 11:53 AM Tom When I first visited the thread it was a vote but now when I visit I get the results so maybe the board somehow thinks you have voted because you posted on this thread. I can't answer that one, only Doug can. No problem since we know what you would have voted I guess. Interesting though DJ T Paul 09-08-2001, 12:34 PM I will have to pick Calvin and Hobbes as I have a few toys decorating my monitor to keep the atmosphere light hearted. I also have lots of markers, stamps, ink pads, color paper, glue, scissors, cutting boards (for the greeting cards I make) and so on. That and I like Calvin’s vivid imagination. -T T Paul 09-08-2001, 12:38 PM As for Tom’s problem not being able to vote. I had posted twice to this thread without voting and could still vote. Tom did you view the results before voting? Perhaps that locks up the voting option? Doug? -T CJ Swartz 09-08-2001, 07:25 PM Right now I'm more interested in hearing from DJ about her "husbands" (plural) "between my work and my husbands" :D I'm afraid that even Oscar would move out of my office to find a neater garbage can... Ed_L 09-08-2001, 07:43 PM Shhhhh! It's a secret! :D Ed DJ Dubovsky 09-08-2001, 07:56 PM Well C.J., I either rule a very unique harem or that was a possesive minus the apostrophe. Must be the latter. :D Actually, my husband (singular) telecommutes to work sometimes via his home computer set up. I have been lucky lately because the project he is on at this time requires his physical presents at work. That leaves me with this wonderous window on the world all to myself during the day. That may change again in a few months and my work space will be 10 times the clutter it is now. My husband's idea of a computer is "au-natural" I haven't seen a cover on the cpu since the day he pieced it together. He loves to see the guts of the thing. I love clean lines and dust free components. Then there is an entire wall of reference books and CD and speakers everywhere. The computer table takes up most of the room because he decided he liked a U shaped work desk so he could reach everything. That translates to everything being at arms reach or spread out all over the place. I gave up trying to keep it clean. The minute he sees a clean spot he fills it. Did I mention his name is "Oscar"? Just kidding DJ chris h 09-09-2001, 04:19 PM DJ, Your husbands part of your workspace meets with my total approval. None of this spit and polish and 'order', bring on spiders webs, dust and a deep layer of clutter to make the artist feel at home. To reach my seat I traverse stacks of books of all types, a few hundred cd's and cdr's and boxes of hydrological files. Several large spiders that like the heat look benignly down upon me from the beams above. On one wall sit two wardrobes full of Scotch Whisky brought back as duty free from my parents many holidays years ago but never drunk. And thats it, heaven ! Regards DJ Dubovsky 09-09-2001, 05:13 PM When I see the votes Oscar is getting, I have to believe we all pretty much work in the same environment. (Minus the wall of Scotch Whiskey) or work might not get done. :D Glad to hear our office is not the only messy domain. You know, as in misery loves company. :D DJ Sanda 02-21-2002, 02:35 PM I have to agree with Oscar as well. As hard as I try I just can't seem to keep my desk tidy. I thought the desk was too small so had a larger on made but all that does is give me more room for piles of junk.My main pile of "junk" is a pile of printouts of hints and tips. I print them out so that I can refer back to them if needed but there are so many I find it hard to find what I want and just go back to the site I found them on. One day I'll sort it all out. BigAl 02-21-2002, 11:54 PM Oscar. When I had my study built, half of it was allocated to my wife for her sewing machines and stuff like that. My half had 2 computers and a HUGE bookshelf. All in all there is over 8m of table space in the study. The bookshelf is now full, the sewing machines are now under the table (to make space for another computer, the Epson 1200 and the record player). The table, once used for cutting out material, is now piled almost to the roof with reprints from journals and floor space is now at a premium. The cupboard once used for storing the material is now used for storing slides, negatives and photographs. A gas, expanding to fill all available space. :) G. Couch 02-22-2002, 09:59 PM so.... do any of you dare post a picture of your "space"? :D Jill 02-23-2002, 01:56 AM Oscar....and I try so hard not to be but, Oscar I am! I recently did pictures of local artists work for a brochure and was just amazed at how disorganized their workspaces were! They even knew I was coming~! Must be some wierd artistic mindset we have... :) Greg... No way will I show how unorganized I am...my Mom might see! d_kendal 03-17-2002, 12:34 PM I'd probably have to say a traffic controller. there always seems to be sombody running through here trying to get something, asking questions etc. etc. I'm going to take Greg up on his dare and post a picture of my little space. its not a great picture, it was taken on a polaroid I-zone camera (those tiny aprox. 1" width pics) then scanned and brightened up a bit so you could actually see whats there. - David :) G. Couch 03-21-2002, 12:57 PM Nice chair! Reminds me of my college dorm room...without the nice view. :D I used to have a fold out chair. I could never figure out why I had headaches and backaches all the time until I realized that 6 hours in a folding metal chair was not very healthy! d_kendal 03-21-2002, 08:09 PM :D lol yeah its not exactly what I'd call a comfortable chair and its in a quite cramped space. I couldn't figure out anywhere else to put my computer so I just kind of crammed everything in one corner. but it is a nice view, and it reminds me to take a break from looking at the screen all day. - David :) Sharon Brunson 03-21-2002, 08:16 PM Hey David, I like your space. Looks like a good place to turn your back to the world and think. Sharon Gary Richardson 07-29-2004, 12:40 AM I'm afraid I can't get into my space, Oscar's outside picketing for better living conditions. |
