I am feeling isolated by the turmoil surrounding the conflict in Iraq and could use a nice hug.

How do you like your coffee, Margaret? Adding a stiff drink to it might help get through some of these news broadcasts. :(

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we didn't have people like Sadam in this world. There are a lot of good people in harms way right now.

It's too late for coffee now Margaret, how's about a hug instead.

A hug would be nice Kevin and CJ, I would try something stronger, but that just makes tomorrow a slow day

Hopefully it will be over soon....

Take care, Margaret

Would anyone mind if I just have a nervous breakdown? Just a little one??

I fell at work and tore a ligament in my ankle, my son knocked his two lower teeth out, my grandmother was rushed to the hospital, and every stinkin' time I turn on the tv or the radio I'm bombarded with images and sounds of this war, and I feel like I'm all alone over here tryin' to just keep it all together...

Forget the coffee. Make mine a 'rita. :(

Oh no!! what a day....you are entitled to have a small nervous breakdown - What you need to go with it is a big ((((((((((((((Themanda))))))))))))))

Amanda, here's another big ((((((((((((((Themanda)))))))))))))) (Great idea, Margaret!)

I sure hope your ankle feels better soon (ouch!!); I hope your son's teeth were "baby" teeth, and that he isn't in pain now; I hope your grandma is well and coming home soon, and I hope that "the new reality show" ends very soon.

Thank you both. :)

Ankle: still hurts, in ski boot brace thing for 3 wks. Beats a cast or surgery, though!
Son: finished crying and bleeding and looking forward to the impending visit of the tooth fairy. (yes, they were baby teeth, thank goodness!)
Grandmother: up in the air...she's 85 and has been in good health, but it can all change so fast. I'm thinking positive thoughts.

Reality Show: too scary to think about for too long.

We all need to hang on to the positives at the moment, the hugs and coffee are good therapy as well. I send you all a big hug.

hey CJ

mind if I sing along a bit?

You may say I’m a dreamer,
but I’m not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one

(((((((((((((( HUGS all around ))))))))))))))))))))

man, it is so good to take a break. Ever get that feeling you're a satellite out there on your own? I can't stand the tv on anymore.
I can't stand the endless discussions of "you know what" anymore.

What a great thread to find after not logging in for a couple of days.

((((((((((((((((((((( BIG HUGS TO ALL ))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Marie - I know what you mean feeling like a satellite. I usually feel that way, but even more so now.

I have so many conflicting emotions right now, but the one that is constant and ever-present is overwhelming sadness.

Here is some information for the "hard-core" coffee drinker:

http://www.vegan-straight-edge.org.uk/nocoffee.htm

Interesting points:

- University of Illinois, in a test of 14 women who drank seven or more cups of coffee daily, researchers reported either miscarriages, still births or fetal deaths among 13 of the women! "University of Washington has come up with corroborative findings"

- Dr. Cole of Harvard School of Public health discovered hat women who drink at least one cup of coffee daily have 25% greater risk developing bladder cancer.

Just my $0.02

I'm sure that caffeine can have negative effects of some type on some people, just like so many other things in life. But it sure has some wonderfully positive effects on some folks, and doesn't "seem" to have any effect on me -- it just happens to be in my favorite drink (Coca Cola). So for those of us who are going to keep drinking/eating caffeine products no matter what, here's some possibly good news for us --- :)

AND this thread is hopefully going to stay as a respite from the hard realities of life -- we need more hugs, not more real things to worry about ;) :)

From CNN ---
Jan. 19 — A Japanese research team found a cup of coffee a day halves the risk of colon cancer among women, in a study by researchers at Gifu University in central Japan.

In a study reported in 2000, "...researchers found that smokers who drank coffee were three times as likely to develop bladder cancer as non-smoking coffee drinkers. Smokers who didn't drink coffee, however, were seven times as likely to get the disease as non-smokers --- suggesting that drinking coffee might protect smokers from bladder cancer.

Actually, caffeine isn’t the danger in coffee… it’s the 1000 chemicals contained in coffee. Mainly the pesticides and other poisons sprayed on coffee bean trees. Organic coffee would be much better to drink, but still not very healthy.

Big ((((((HUG)))))) for anyone needing one. I'll also jump in on the coffee. It might be terrible for you today (along with the pesticides), but tomorrow it (along with the pesticides) will probably be found to increase life expectancy by years. :D I say enjoy it if you like it!

And from the sunny...no rainy...no sunny...no rainy...now windy (in early Spring, the weather seems to change by the hour sometimes) City of Seattle, Washington I send copius quantities of chemical free coffee (courtesy of Starbucks), several to many gallens of that frozen concoction that Jimmy Buffet used to sing about ('specially to you, A) and hugs all around.

May the images on CNN soon become those of humanitarian aid.

Hi Guys,

I haven't been on this site for a few weeks--I've been so busy with classes. The news about the war is so hard to take--because I feel helpless to "do" anything for the innocent Iraque civilians. I just hope the madness there can end soon for eveyone's sake. :) Hugs to everyone! :)

Jenny :)
